Upgrading my G&G M14

Postby Cloudyrains » Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:28 pm

Recently I bought this for the Fallout game: http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ER-GG-M14-WOOD.htm

Its a nice and sturdy gun and supposedly has a pre-upgraded barrel. The problem is is that the hop up is horrible. I ended up turning it off for Rez IV because even though I could strain out a little more range the BB's would arch off in all directions. I was told I should get a new H-Nub for the gun's hop up. The thing is, I've never upgraded an airsoft gun and don't really know how to start.

My question is, should I buy a H-Nub and see were the gun is from there? If so, what H-Nub should I get? Do you think a new gearbox spring would be better? Should I think about getting a completely new hop-up system? Thanks :)

An H nub will have relatively little effect. Try checking your bucking for rips and what not and that you have it properly lubed and installed into the hop up unit. Also check that the nub is not defective

There are TONS of hop up mods you can do to increase accuracy

Thanks for the response, I'm not entirely sure how to get into the hop-up on the gun. I've managed to get most of the gun disassembled though. I'm missing a hex screw to disassemble the barrel from the motor, which I'm thinking will let me get to the hop up. I have never upgraded an airsoft gun before, but I have fixed a couple in the past. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the parts of a hop up too. What does the bucking look like? Thanks for the help :)

The bucking is like a little rubber sleeve that goes over the barrel. If you shave down the arm and ad a better nub, you could increase your consistency...

Here is a pic of the hop-up:

Everything looks fine as far as I can tell. I'm assuming the rubber part is the bucking. Could someone please name the other parts for me? Thanks :)

Just ordered a new madbull 60 degree shark bucking, hopefully it will fix some things. I am also thinking about getting a new barrel, although I don't know what the maximum length my barrel supports.

How much difference do you think an H-Nub would give me? Would it not make much of a difference with the new bucking?

Eh IMO the H bucking is kinda a flawed concept as it doesn't allow the BB to push it out of the way. It's why the R-Hop (even though I'm having a hell of a time fitting it on this thin G&G M14 hop window)

Also Cloudy, upon inspection of my G&G M14 (I have the vet version). The motor needs to go. It sucks. As does the wiring.

Okay, guess I will stick with the stock nub. My motor seems/works fine, so I don't really think I need to replace it. None of the wiring is frayed or anything and looks just fine. I don't think I'm going to get another barrel because of the odd barrel length and the fact that I don't want to have to worry about keeping a 6.01 clean. Besides a new spring, what other upgrades could I do to increase accuracy/fps?

Well you can check compression but really the only things that drastically help accuracy is the hop and barrel..

And the barrel length isn't strange it's a standard M14 length..

Also it's not that the wiring isn't in tact, it's that its like 20 AWG :?

Piston head, cylinder head, nozzle, spring, barrel, wires are fine if your not running a big battery. The internal stuff should help with consistency, and a little fps bump without changing the spring.

But really, i have a G&G m14, all stock, and i think it performs just fine the way it is. 350 fps with .20's, i use .28's and i get decent range and accuracy. If i were to do anything it would be the bucking and nub, since i get a right turn on my bb's out at 150ft.
