Had a great time! Probably my last game before I leave for 2 years. Great way to go out. My first Op being at Splat Action in 2007 ending at Splat action in 2011.

Honestly, I loved my team. For the first time whatever team Flecktarn was on didn't happen to lose :D Haha I really don't care much about winning or losing since I think this was the first Op my team won. (I'm assuming green team won?)

Can't wait to see the video. I think we all got on film doing some pretty l33t stuff. Met a lot of awesome people, everyone got along pretty well, and best of all.. weather was GREAT!

Only downside was getting shot at the very end when I was sitting down with a GIANT bright red shirt on my head and someone popped me from (it felt like) 15 feet away with 420fps on the back of my arm at full auto, leaving bloody welts :( It's all good, we've all done stuff like that on accident before.

Both of those.

I still had a great time, even though our 4 man squad got disbanded kind of fast due to me taking a pop shot in the middle of the woods. It was fun to roll with different people and play with everybody though, and blasting the shit out of the Mehdi while they assaulted from the left, as well as blasting the shit out of them while they were in the bunker to the left was awesome.

The turn out was disappointing though, it seems like we had half of the people we should. And we had some really disappointing loadouts with the whole "Civilian clothes allowed for USRF" rule. I think that shouldn't be in place ever again, seeing a kid in a sweatshirt, jeans, and Nike shoes just ruins the fun for me...

Great game Rick, I had a great time. W1, and Skunk Ape epic as always. I must say I was skeptical about the respawn rules at first. Turns out that it was awsome, stepping over fallen foes to keep pushing up added a whole new element for me that I loved. I think that this spawn system should be the standard for all games from now on.

AAR
LOW IV

This event had a great amount of sign ups, large interest from the players, and the Admins were fantastic. The planning on their side, including the player handbook was an essential that brought clarity for all the players.

I was USRF on Supply, and our Supply team consisted of 8 outstanding people who really clicked and made things happen.

My major complaint with this event, cannot go against the administrators, but rather the leadership of the USRF. I realize there is a lot of CAG personnel here who may opt to defend Phoenix, and I'm okay with that type of teamwork. However, after spending $30 to be let down significantly in this regard, I have every right to mention it so that Phoenix may better himself as a leader, and work on his command potential.

The biggest point in writing all of this, is to provide perspective to the commander of how people under his command were doing, their morale, their beliefs, which I feel is critical if you are to improve yourself.

Failure in effective planning:

The plans were very half-hazardly drawn out in our forum, it was a paintshop job that was unclear. Follow up battlefield planning did not seem to work as well as it should have, that I cannot confirm / deny, only perspective.

Failure in the chain of command:

After Supply made repeated attempts trying to contact you for orders, and calls for assistance, it seemed like it fell on deaf ears, or one who was too distracted because you had an ineffective chain of command.

A chain of command doesn't have to have specific names, it could be units and you can fill them as people arrive. But having something laid out, with manpower levels, and leadership who are reliable in place.

Radio Utilization:

Part of the planning phase should have identified the communications sector. There are multiple teams out there, and there is a Chain of command / hierarchy in place to manage them. For the USRF it seemed like this was probably one of the bigger problems, failure in comms.

In the future, I would recommend that you have a RTO - Radio Telephone Operator, assigned to you, with a sole job of staying in contact with units in the field. In this manner, you can effectively deploy units, obtain rapid sit/rep requests, and overall organize the flow of operations.

Radio Channel Assignments:

This was not mentioned during the entirety of the planning phase, that is at least according to the forums. This would be good to have, to reduce confusion, to increase cohesion / awareness.

Taking the weight of the world:

Due to the above mentioned information, it was clearly evident that you were trying to manage too much. An assault was orchestrated right beneath our spawn area and to the left, it ended up with a mass of people running and getting suppressed / taken out in rapid fashion.

This kind of micromanagement neglected other teams, and scattered the troop forces beyond reeling them back in to be an organized force.

Command Post:

I cannot confirm / deny that something like this existed, but it may have been of good use to have an area, locked down by a team of defenders, in which you and your RTO could have concentrated on better comms and effective battle planning.

Casualty Collection Point:

As forces get taken out, this method could have been a general rule employed to all units of USRF. And it could be simple: If you go down, immediately from respawning return to the Command Post / CCP, and prepare for new instructions.

This would have enabled you to effectively re-enforce positions, in an organized manner. There is constant accountability from your troops, and is very applicable to Airsoft.

==========================

To conclude, I am hoping to provide constructive criticism, not troll, or belittle you in public. After short discussion with other personnel there, it was very evident that these type of concerns came up with them as well. In other words, it was mutually shared.

I realize it must have been difficult taking on a large force and managing a large force, and I commend you for rising up to the challenge.

At the other end of the spectrum of Callahan's post ^^ I would like to thank Chesty, his XO Ricochet and the rest of the Mehdi for their excellence in command, command structure, radio operations, battle strategy and execution.

It was "game on" before we had even located spawn, and every one of us knew where to go and what job to do. Dynamic changes in the game play was dealt with quickly and effectively over the command network. Organization and teamwork decided the outcome before the first shot. Fantastic.

My personal thanks to 1-charlie for a job well done. A shout out to the USRF forces that were attacking us at the north outpost, you guys are gi-joe uber-ninja sneaky but we had numbers and a defensive position, plus reinforcements via radio when we needed them. Thanks for keeping us on our toes.

Thanks to Rick and the admins, I hope you remember that the few miscontents complaining about gameplay do not represent the 99% of us that were out there having fun.

Skunk-ape you are one bad a$$ squad commander. 1-bravo was a plastic slinging machine. Hope to work with you guys again.

No-shows: Don't sign up anymore, we don't need you. You are disrespectful of the community and we don't want to play with you anyway. Stay off the forum because you screw up the game planning for the organizers. If you do sign up, you only have two options: Drop out on the forum or show up and play.

If you are a noshow reading this, you should own it and apologize to Rick and to your team for letting them down, and don't do it ever again.

Phiz out.

For this being my first AP event, I don't think it could have been any better. Working with SkunkApe and the rest of 1st Bravo was a blast. Mehdi's leaders (Chesty_1, and all the Squad Leaders) were extremely precise and focused. You all did an amazing job out there. Can't wait until the next event.

Taken from my FB page last night:

"Back home - cold, wet, muddy, and bloody. Good turnout - over 200(?)+/- people. Excellent gameplan by our CO/XO/Pltn Commander/etc. The battle in the village for sector 3 was intense followed closely by the fight for sectors 8 & 6. Good times had by all. My legs are smoked and cramping badly as I sit here typing. Going to rehydrate while watching the fights...then head off to soak in the tub. Cheers - RWB"

Still gaining my bearings to the game of airsoft, I observe having pre-planned objectives, field maps, comms, and command structure as keys to success. *Added bonus is to have teams that have worked together and can effectively work as a cohesive unit...was impressed.

Enjoyed the field at Splat Action...would like to head out there again sometime in the near future.

Great game. Thanks to Rick and all of the admins.

Chesty and leadership: Good job on leading us successfully. There was good command structure, and all squad leaders seemed to have a tight grasp on their goal/mission.

Radios: I was really impressed with the radio use at this game. There was only 1 time(15 minute time period) when someones transmit button was held down and caused a screeching into everyone elses earpieces/headsets. For the majority of the day game, there was nobody yelling "He's next to the tree" over comms.

Squads: I was with Skunk most of the time and besides the first 30 min. of gameplay(when our squad was wiped out instantly), we did very good. We didn't have any snipers or support gunners with us so we made do with what we had within our medium sized squad.

It was fun talking with everyone and the usual B.S. Even though my gun broke during the night game and that dissapoints me greatly, this was an overall great game(from the perspective of a Medhi engineer in Skunk's squad). :)

And to the guy running with the HPA saw on USRF- WOW. That thing nearly made me shit my pants.

USRF, if you sign up for a bolty spot and don't show, you are a douche, We could of used at least one of you.

On that note, the 4 of us from GOAT had fun, when admin switched the respawn locations we got stuck in the middle of a very large Mehdi force (looked like 75%+ of them.) While we tried to hold out as long as possible we knew it was going to end in defeat, so we went down shooting and surprisingly took quite a few of them with us.

With the 4 year hiatus from Splat, I enjoyed it again, and I really like the new giant bunkers they have built. While I can see using it in the future again, hopefully it is not over used like before.

Thanks Rick.

From where I was as an admin, I saw only good. I had no complaints about hacking or any other douchey stuff. I love what has been done to splat action, and look forward to playing there again.

Grats to medhi for steamrolling all day long.

Thought about that as me and several other guys were heading to the 'new' respawn up past sector 5. I told Skunk that we were about to make a USRF sandwich.

As soon as we came out(coming in from the north), it was like shooting fish in a barrel (I was thinking, 'Run Bambi, run')and before long, we'd converged with members of our team coming up from the south. After that, we headed over to battle it out in the village.

Some of us got pushed back over sector 8 (Hamburger Hill)...followed by some good back-and-forth between sectors 7 & 8.

If that was Sector 1, SOTA infiltrated twice but the promised assaulting force never showed up. Blue was succesfully leading a squad to sweep that area. Super text book in commanding his squad, and he took a few of us out. You would have thought his squad were seasoned vets.
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon
