Zeroing distance

Postby Peaches » Tue Dec 27, 2011 4:30 pm

How far is a good distance to zero optics on an AEG. My guesstimate is about 50' to ensure best possible distance. Any other opinions would be great.

Just wing it. Honestly, it's airsoft so unless you're running highly upgraded, really precision system, I honestly don't think it matters. I've never seen a stock gun shoot well enough to need a "zeroing distance." I typically just find a target 135' out and tweek it till the dot is in the middle of the mass of bb's flying through the air.

With any optics, real or airsoft, zero the device using the ammo weight you plan on using and at the distance you intend to shoot. I would say .20s @ 75 feet ( for outdoors) would meet the need for most purposes. The zero will get changed from a variety of reasons , so occasionally check it.

I've zeroed most of mine at 100' with .25's, save for the shotgun which really can't be zeroed, but it's good at <75 feet or so. 100 feet, at least to me, seems to be a good distance, as most airsoft engagements aren't much further than that and it's easy enough to compensate for something at a shorter distance.

Accuracy is consistency. And your hop up is not consistent. It will change in different weather, number of rounds, volume of fire, length of bursts.

Just center your sights (You can use a laser bore-sight if you're really OCD), and at each game (And throughout the day) just adjust your hopup to meet your sights. That way, your hopup is always sending the BBs into your sight picture. Its quick to adjust on the fly in any environment.

And no, you don't need to know an exact range the BB's meet your sights at. Just estimate "Out there".

Ignore that.

For typical airsoft engagement distances, if you zero your sights to 50-75 ft (depending on your optics and platform) you should be able to adjust fire to other distances. It's all about finding where your platform can reliably put rounds.

Same rounds you shoot, on the field.

This. Just adjust the hopup to shoot straight with the bb weight you're using then adjust the scope to wherever they start getting to where they aren't really going to hit anything. That's what I've done for years and it's worked for me at least.

I zero my sights at where the bbs crest from in their flight path. This way, I have my sights set in for the longest range shots I can achieve, and I know that anything before that will shoot low, so I just aim for the upper chest/pecs of my target to make sure I don't hit anyone in the head or face.

I play airsoft, so I look at my bbs as they come out the gun, pretty neat that way

I figured that about 100 feet for mine, I can hold my red dot on target from the edge of safety range out to 100+ anything beyond 120 or so I hold a little high. It works for me.......
