QBZ battery solution

Postby Tankwitch » Mon Jan 02, 2012 12:41 pm

As you may know the QBZ from Real Sword uses an interesting battery. I'm wondering how the other onwers of this model solved getting a battery. Did you purchase them ready made, if so where? Or did you buy loose NiMH cells and soder it yourselves?

i'm not sure what li-po batteries can fit in there
but you can buy NI-MH batteries for it online:

I would think an external battery solution would be easiest. The receiver on that gun is tiny, so you're not left with that many options. That said, there might be a LiPo that fits, but I don't know (I've never owned one).

As said before, ScaredShooter has one, as does Junto.

Also, congratulations on buying a fantastic gun, Real Swords are great.

You can get the proprietary battery, but it's still difficult to get it set correctly inside the gun. I mounted a rail to the side of my QBZ 97 and put a fake PEQ with a battery in it on there.

I've seen pictures of this. How did you modify your QBZ to hold a rail for a PEQ box?

I drilled the right size holes for the screws that hold the rail on, screwed them in, then cut them with a Dremel on the inside of the grip so that they were a bit shorter before screwing nuts onto them. Pretty simple stuff.

There is also the option of a small triple cell 11.1v lipo. The same type that fits in the GK99.

You can do one small cell in the grip, and two small cells next to the barrel. It seems like it would fit.

True that. I think my Type 97 is still my favorite weapon, if I could only keep one.

So if you don't like doing the Junto and putting a PEQ box on your China gun (personally against my taste), here's what I did.

Had rewired to deans. This reduces all that room the connectors take up in the minimal space.

I then dremeled out the mini shelf, which is located at the top of the handguard. You can look at this thread or many others which show that mod.

At this point, the gun should accept this battery from AONW. It is the one I use, just wired to deans. There are a number of 11.1V LiPos I have also dabbled in, such as the King Arms 1100mah stick (here). I personally prefer the slightly slower rate of fire. If you do like the insane rate of fire, you will be quite pleased with the 97 with an 11.1, and even more so if you swap the high torque motor for the Real Sword high speed motor (the one which comes stock in the Type 97B).

I think that should be a reasonable solution to your battery problem. The 7.4 has done well for me. I also found this battery and shipped two from China and rewired them. One fit, the other didn't, and the one that did work had extremely thin wires and eventually bloated to the point that I felt unsafe. But hard to naysay at only $6.53.

I had the stock 8.4v for some time as well, of course they fit, but I prefer the Lipo; it's much more tidy and actually cheaper.

Changing the battery isn't actually as cumbersome as people claim once you get accustomed to it. I can do it fairly quickly. That being said, I think I can change the spring faster.

I can change the spring more easily than getting the trigger mechanism to match up properly. I've never gotten used to it and I've done it dozens of times. I also don't care about rate of fire. I shoot on semi most of the time because the compression and accuracy get noticeably more consistent and it shoots like a damn laser.

Semi, yes. Agree definately on that gun. People always complain about the location of the fire selector but I rarely take it off semi anyways.

The trigger mechanism - idk, maybe I'd have to show you. I feel like there is a trick to it and I've got it down. You slide the front on first, and then rotate the back part up and in, that make sense?

Yes, that's how it should work, but it frequently matches up improperly for me. I repeat the trick 4 or 5 times and, if I'm lucky, it works out.

I experienced too. Normally is ok, perhaps manufacturer and size matter
