You don't need super high fps to shoot people. Keep it low, get closer to the enemy, and save your gearbox.

How can I lower my FPS?

Leave your spring compressed for a little bit.

I did this with my old Mp5 and it decreased by 1fps. 2 weeks stored with the piston fully back. It may work, it may not. The only surefire way to decrease FPS is to put a new spring in it.

So if a new kid with say, one of those new A&K SR25 rifles shooting ~430-450, you're going to turn him away simply because he either didn't know how or couldn't afford to have his gearbox spring changed? I know at least a couple guys who have guns that are shooting hot (upper 420-430s) due to previous owner upgrades or just a over-zealous ACM companies that have no gearbox experience and very limited income.

P.S. The SR25 was only an example, I don't know their exact FPS out of the box.

Yes. I usually have some wiggle room, but never that much. I post games far enough out that a player can take care of the things they need to to attend.

And on top of that, ESPECIALLY if it was a new kid, you'd not let them roll with that.

Why does it feel like this community is so anti-new players? What happens when all the current members get too old or too busy?

Yeah. Maybe we would be more newb-friendly if we just threw out all the rules and let new people do whatever they want.

No need to be friendly to newbs who feel their first gun needs to shoot 440 fps.

It is not that we are not newb friendly, it is just more likely that a veteran player who is known will be sure to watch their engagement distance with a rifle that is shooting say, ten fps over the limit or something like that. Someone noone knows is not going to be trusted with the responsibility of not injuring someone because they might not know what they are doing. Plain and simple.

Injured whilst wearing full body armor, goggles, and quite often helmets... Right. Paintballs bruise way more, and it's probably a much more casual game.

Can't wait for the ignore feature.

Ditto, people get their teeth shot out all the time in airsoft Ninja, not to mention the stories of BBs shattering upon impact with mesh goggles. At close range a lot of shit can go wrong, and most "noobs" have the tendency to "spray and pray" at any range at 330-400 FPS, and 430-450 FPS at close range... well, you do the math.

I watched a BB get embedded in the skin of a player from a gun chronoing at 275fps from 15' away.

People like you make insurance companies cringe. I wasn't even going to dignify your ignorance with a response, but what the hell:

FPS limits are there for a reason, as are safety distances. Did you think a "safety kill" was called that for shits and giggles? Did you think that a minimum engagement distance for bolts, and now DMR rifles in some games, are there just for immersion purposes? No, they are there so that retards like you don't rail people on full auto from point blank, shooting out their teeth or something.

TL;DR:

FPS Limit = FPS Limit.

FPS Limit =/= "Well I guess you can go in with that 420fps rifle since you're new, and don't have the money for a spring...But be careful!"

400fps is the perfect fps to run for general purpose AEGs. Best range, least wear on GB, safest for other players.

Anything over that and things start getting "iffy"

We don't have FPS rules out here, and I am very familar with "stupid" high fps gameplay.

Besdies the obvious reasons "INSURANCE" "SAFETY"

Strict FPS limits help sustain a healthy community. why?

The second people with 450fps guns show up to your game. You have an arms race.

Yes, 450fps is going to shoot harder and further then 400fps guns. They can use heavier BBs which hit ALOT harder then .20s and .25s They can shoot through more foliage, and can shoot better through wind. They are MORE INTIMIDATING. Having .30 bbs slamming all around you is much more intense then having .20s giving butterfly kisses to the cover you are hiding behind.

Long story short. Other people start running high fps. Every one starts running HIGHER fps. Then you have some poor kid showin gup with a stock gun and getting BLOWN to pieces buy some crazy loon with a 600fps AEG, and the field get sued. Or people get sued. Or the Media goes ape. etc etc

Not to mention it drives up the price of airsoft, because you HAVE to upgrade your gun to stand a chance on the field. You alienate people who can't upgrade guns.
And attitudes go sour because when you get shot it HURTS LIKE HELL. People get heated and upset after getting shot up close with 400fps guns. Imagine if some one lit you up with a 500fps AEG at pointblank range. Feels like you just got attacked by a swarm of hornets. I've seen those situations turn into rage induced fist fights.

Having high FPS can be useful for SPECIAL APPLICATIONS. Snipers, DMRs, Support. But it it important the undertake these missions with responsibility. Not only are you trying to be a "special asset" to your team, but with your role you have been granted more "leeway" in your performance limits.

Though we all know that most people pick up high FPS snipers and just "GO RAMBO" out in the woods. With no consideration for their team.

It's an annoying airsoft issue, but firm rules must be applied. Or things start getting STUPID.

Nice to see some insight from the Maui Boy! Good words there...

This is the only thing that kind of makes me itch though. I've never seen anybody get shot from closer than 25 feet away, and rarely near that (which isn't point blank in airsoft.) A lot of people just say "point blank" to give them and their buddies something to rant about. Plus, airsoft guns don't really inflict that much pain if you're wearing proper protection, some people are just too soft and need to control their tantrums.

What if you get a burst in the junk? Or the neck? Point being. The game turns into a hobby of revenge, and people set out to get payback on other players who shot them up last game.

As much as i like submission Airsoft. I prefer to play for fun and not to prove how many bbs I can take before I need to go to surgery to get the plastic removed from my flesh.

Again. It stops being a sport of honor and turns into an fps pissing contest.

Fps rules are vitally important. Keeps every one on an even playing field. Keeps the sport fun.
