That guy that looks like your math teacher? Is a recon Marine....0321. He is your primary instructor at BRS, and he will be in your face a lot. Especially when your not "on board"aka acting like an individual.

and the water part

Hmmm....the water part.

It's kinda hard to have interest in being a recon Marine, or even (like old farts like me) do a realistic impression of a recon Marine, without being willing to get wet.

This school is designed to give you a "taste" of what it's like to be a recon Marine. It's not designed to be "cool".

What is the gear required to bring? Can I use an XM177 or do I have to bring an M16a1?

Are there rentals of certain items if we don't have them?

What is the uniform? Tigers? OD? ERDL?

I'm interested. I'm working on getting my kit together. When I do, I'll register.

Also I'll ask my old Sergeant if he wants to teach. He's in the National Guard now (E7), but he was in the Marines for some time (Marine Force Recon).

The information you guys are looking for is here:

http://www.mycorps.us/ship.html

(Lower left hand corner PDF files)

The MCHA does have some extra gear for student usage.

I'm sure Roger would love to have him on board. If he is interested have him shoot Roger a email here:

You can come by yourself to BRS, you'll become apart of a team. ;)

Keep in mind guys that this school is designed to simulate a USMC Recon school prior to shipping out to Vietnam. You are going to learn lot's of things about a USMC Recon patrol that will be useful to you if you reenact or play airsoft, paintball whatever. But, because the MCHA is a historical association here to honor the Marines and Naval personnel that served? It's an important part of anything we put together and do, BRS helps keep the torch alive of all of the USMC Recon (both Force and Batt) Vietnam veterans out there. It's our way of saying "thanks" to them, as well as helping future generations understand their sacrifices in country.

We encourage students to fully immerse themselves in living history, by creating a historical persona and sticking to it throughout the school.

Alrighty thanks for the information.

It's a must that trainees wear the type 3 OD fatigues? No tiger stripe or ERDL allowed?

Correct.

That's considered "Gucci" gear for graduates and instructors.

I'm really happy to see some interest here. If more people remember the sacrifices of those who stand on the line every day for freedom, less blood will be shed.

Now, on to BRS: as Wade stated- ERDL is "gucci" gear. Instructors wear it, but Candidates are good 'ole Line personnel. 90% of The War was fought in plain OD's. The ERDL utilities weren't widespread until late 68-69, and by that time many major BLT's were being withdrawn.

The MCHA has a lot of spare rental gear. We even have airsoft M16A1's that we'll include. However, uniforms are one of those things that you'll need to get for yourself. And, at less than $40 for a complete set of Rothco "Vintage Vietnam" OD utilities and boonie is a steal for many eras of immersion. Boots are dirt cheap too.

NOTE* This is NOT an airsoft event. If you sign up thinking that you're going to go shoot up a lot of stuff, run around, "eliminate" your opfor, etc. - you'll be sorely disappointed, and you'll likely quit or get kicked out of the program. (Yes- you can "fail" or get kicked out.) Look at the videos, that's what the program is about. It's a highly structured learning environment.

(and I'm sorry that I look like someone's math teacher. lol)
