Police Interference

Postby Flak » Fri Apr 13, 2007 12:29 am

A couple of months ago, i talked with one of my teammates cousin who is a deputy for the aloha police department about airsoft. they say they hope the ban doesnt pass because they use airsoft for training exersizes and they hope the "current rule" they have sticks. During a skirmish recently a cop drove by our play field and we dropped our guns, hands in the air, and the cop said, "i recognized the orange tips from the street, so i appreciate your cooperation. is there some kind of supervision? and is this your property?" we affirmed his questions and he approved us and drove off right after saying:

The current rule in the portland metro area on airsoft is as long as the front 1/2in tip of the barrel is painted blaze orange, the event is taken up on private property with consent and supervision of a valid adult, and proper eye protection is worn, airsoft is perfectly legal.

My teammates cousin also said that they have much more trouble with paintballers because they dont have orange tips, they play on public property, and they will barrel sweep cops frequently.

just a little memo

I don't know about prison, but the longer we were in New Orleans, the lower the exchange rate for Thoma's services became. By the time we left, he was getting traded for a single scrambled egg MRE....

i googled the rule i mentioned above awhile ago and the penalty was temporary/permanent confiscation of the replica, a biga$$ fine, and then last but certaintly not least, the opportunity to get SHOT by a cop

If any of you little shits beleive there is a "temporary confiscation" of anthing resembling a gun that was siezed in the field, you are sorely mistaken. After the cops get done shooting each other with it around the office and drain the battery, it will be destroyed.

Keep in mind, most of our games are not in the Portland Area, and Private fields like Splat Action are not subject to the same laws as if you had your replica out on public land , like Carlton or something.

Lets try this one on for size...

So, you and your band of merry marauders are playing in your grandmothers back yard, you've left the orange tip on your gun. The neighbors are not amused, and they call the police. Grams is wearing goggles, and sitting on the back-deck 'supervising' while she knits.

The Police show up, and obviously have not gotten the memo from FLAK's teammates cousin of what the Policy is in the Portland Metro Area.

Seems that this officer is not amused by whats happening, and wants to do something about it. Seems the neighbor indicated that they fear that they are in danger of imminent serious physical injury.

Oregon Legislature wrote:163.190 Menacing. (1) A person commits the crime of menacing if by word or conduct the person intentionally attempts to place another person in fear of imminent serious physical injury.

Be smart. Do not play in the city. Do no play in public view. Do not think that the word of Flak's teammates cousin is going to keep you from getting in a world of trouble any more than the word of my neighbors little brother's cousins mother who might have breast cancer (who, coincidentally, wrote this response)
