Yes, all legal fixed-blades, folders and multi-tools should be allowed

Knives on the field.

Postby Sleepy » Mon Aug 25, 2008 5:13 pm

So, no BS, just a simple question:

How do we feel about people carrying real knives on the field?

The knife I want to carry doesn't have a training version available, so I'd probably wind up carrying the real thing onto the field. Any regulations, thoughts on safety?

EDIT: Removed some stuff that didn't matter.

Personally, I have no issue with folks carrying real knives. So long as they're only used for impressionistic purposes and the occasional utility task.

In other words, so long as it's kept "out of play," I'm cool with it.

I'd be fine with someone having one, but I don't think you should use it cut through brush 'cause there might be someone in the brush.

I always carry one. Comes in handy when you get tangled on the random vine or something.

I see knives more as tools than weapons.

I've gotta agree here.. Even in non AS situations, I routinely carry a blade on me unless I'm going to some sort of large event where they won't allow it.

As far as airsoft, I can absolutely see why some people wouldn't want it on the field, but the folks that actually go out to skirmishes are generally above the high school mentality of wanting to cut some 'mofo'

I carry the Smith and Wesson HRT boot knife strapped to my chest rig to every game. Its never brought into play and is used for the occasional utility and for me to have in an emergency(survival) situation.

It looks good and serves a real life purpose.

Its never been a problem.

Well, the consensus seems to be that I shouldn't worry about it.

After careful consideration, I'm thinking about carrying a Gerber LMF II ASEK System. That's a small utility knife that gets clipped to the leg straps of the 6004 I hope to be getting, and there's also a small seat-belt cutter that has it's own pouch, I figure I'll keep that on my first-line as well. The sheath on the knife has a double-strap system, so it should hold it fairly well.

Thank you for your thoughts and information, folks.

As a Boy Scout, I carry a pocketknife almost everywhere I go, simply for the utility applications. I have no problems with carrying a useful tool with many applications like a pocketknife or leatherman. But ask yourself if it seems silly to carry a tool designed as much for killing as for anything else as, basically, a fashion accessory.

I carry a Leatherman Wave everywhere I go, including the airsoft field. I understand that a multi-tool isn't exactly the same as a KA-BAR et al, but it can be used to cut stuff just the same.

I always have a knife, sometimes two. A Butterfly knife in my pant leg and a Switch Blade in my boot. I use them about every other day. I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed. Maybe a age limit could be put on.
