Legal Target Shooting Near Oregon Coast

Postby Scythe » Sat May 23, 2009 8:54 pm

I'm going to the coast soon. I'll have by gun by then, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could get down off the road and legally do some target shooting.

Even more helpful if anyone knows where using real steel is allowed too...

Near the coast.

If everywhere requires having a conversation with or signing papers for rangers of sherif, then I'll just forget it because I don't want to go through that much trouble for just a road trip...

Any unincorporated space out of sight of a residence or dwelling. I'm a member up at tri county so you can always get range time with me

I don't know about the legality of it, but people go shooting all over the Coast range. Go off some random side road from the highway, find a clearing and you'll probably find shells and brass. Of actual ranges or anything like that, I dunno. My guess would be legal, but if it isn't no one cares enough to do anything about it.

Just make sure you aren't shooting across any roads.

And that you aren't shooting in the vicinity of anything that will shoot you back with a bullet.

Essentially if you go in a non-range place, follow the cardinal rule: Make sure whatever you are shooting at you are willing to destroy. That's not just the target, but also what's behind it and probably a good 10 degree side-to-side of it as well.

First of all, if you are referring to shooting real steel you should post your thread in the real steel forums.
You'll need to request access to this forum.

If that is indeed what you are asking about then most public land, (unless otherwise posted,) is legal to shoot.
>500 feet from major roads with a solid backstop.
Think before you plink.
Shoot smart, shoot safe, shoot straight.

There are also a couple of indoor ranges that can accomodate you.
"A Place to Shoot" is located near Delta Park. Additionally, Clackamas County Sherriffs dept operates an indoor public range off of Sunnybrook rd.

Another fine example of your annoying posts. unless you have anything new to contribute, keep your mouth shut.

To the OP, as far as airsoft goes I've gone down by the coast and just gode a few hundred yards away from the road, in a place where nobody can easily see, and done some plinking. Worked out fine for me.

I live about an hour NW of Portland. I just drive out of town to do my shooting. As long as the road isn't gated and you have a good backstop, you're good to go.

If you do go and find a back drop make sure to go behind it and make sure that it isnt a little hill. Also make sure it isnt near any bike paths, that could turn ugly.
