Airsoft legality

Postby shrimpy323 » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:31 pm

Ok my parents are kinda annoyed with airsoft thinking that possibly a civillian could see us with guns and then call the cops and have the cops shoot us. I normally play in a forest, in beaverton prefferably where no one goes and there are often airsoft bbs strewn places. If a cop were happen to come would he be able to confiscate our guns, and are we leggaly allowed to play there? I think that some of you are possibly cops and would know what would happen.

You shouldnt play on public land inless you get permision from whoever owns it. If the cops were to come and see your guns they do have the right to take them away from you but most dont. But dont take your chances.

Discharging a firearm (your airsoft guns count) inside city limits is a crime. The police can confiscate your guns and even arrest you if they wanted. In an extreme case (if they felt threatened) they can shoot you. It isn't funny, and it isn't safe. Please don't play inside city limits unless you are on private land and have permission from the land owner to play there. Make sure you are far enough away from roads and the like so that people won't just stumble into you, either.

Discharging an airsoft gun is NOT the same as discharging a firearm, the cops will tell you it is, but the tualatin prosecuter told me it wasn't the same thing. They can confiscate your guns if they feel threatened (and if you show it in public or whatever, they will think of it as a real firearm and take action as such)

Stop. Just stop.

It IS the same, it's just a matter of how the RO handles it, and how the Prosecutor handles it if the RO wants to push the matter.

Beavertons City Charter web site is damn near unusable, however all of the cities surrounding Portland mirror Portlands Code of Ordinances... including Tualatin.

To wit:
Portland City Code 14a.10.010(I) defines a firearm as follows:

Quote: Firearm: a pistol, revolver, gun, rifle, or other mechanism, including a miniature weapon, which projects a missile or shot by force of gunpowder or any other explosive, by spring or by compressed air.

I honestly could care less what you think the prosecutor told you. Next time you feel like giving legal advice to a minor, at least please make sure that the advice you're giving him won't end up getting him into trouble.

IIt is now Illegal to use Airsoft guns/rifles in beaverton and they will almost 100% be taken away because of this new law. you can not use them on your own property any more as well in the beaverton area.

you have to leave city limits and then it is still Illegal if you do not get permission to use the land you want to play on.
