Balisongs(butterfly knifes)

Postby Hutch » Fri Oct 29, 2010 12:44 am

Im getting a balisong/butterfly Training knife that has no blade, just a rectangular piece of metal, It has no sharp edges or points, I was wondering if you are allowed to use those as the Knife feature during airsoft games.

Great for learning how to play with a balisong without getting bit, but AP rules dictate that a training knife must bend over to touch its own handle to be acceptable.

You would be surprised how much damage a rectangular piece of metal can do if stabbed with.
Knives must be made of rubber, and be able to touch the handle, like Junto said.

What are you guys talking about? The safety rules state:

8. All "real" weapons including but not limited to firearms and fixed-blade knives are NOT allowed at games. Folding utility knives and pocket knives are allowed as an essential part of survival kit, but they may not be used in game-play.

RUBBER KNIFE KILLS
Players are allowed to "tap out" other players with rubber or plastic knives made for safe Airsoft use. Touch your opponent with your rubber knife and simply tell them that they're dead. Contact should be no more than a tap; there's absolutely no slashing, throwing, hitting or martial arts physical contact allowed. Contact must be made with a rubber or plastic replica of a knife, sticks and other objects do not work. DO NOT tap another player in the head, neck, face or groin. Players eliminated by this method should try and acknowledge their hit/death silently.

My answer to Alphawolf would be, since this is not a utility knife, I would see no reason to have it in your kit - and most would consider it a weapon (even if a trainer). Probably best to leave it at home.

There's no such "bendy rule" for replica knives. Since the rules strictly forbid "mock knife fighting," there's little to no chance of injury resulted from a plastic or rubber dull replica knife of any kind.

The bending thing is an old obsolete rule no one followed in the first place.
As CalvinB said, cold steel training knives, which is what I see most of, don't bend that far.

my cold streel trainers all bend 180 degrees upon them selves....why?

because i use and train with them all the time.

the rule that the knife had to bend over on its self was my idea and was set in place for a set of rules i had for a knife fighters challenge i had planned on hosting that the community feared based on liability/and aggression issues.

any one who likes knife fighting and wants to train, should contact me.

I told you that you could post it in off topic. I just didn't want it setup on the event calendar, it's not an Airsoft event :D
