Just a California thing?

Postby AndyC » Tue May 31, 2011 12:36 pm

Have a small problem. I live in NorCal(huge problem these days). I have an airsoft rifle I needed to ship as my end of a deal. The rifle has no orange tip on the muzzle. I wrapped the entire muzzle with blaze-orange tape just to be safe. The guy at the UPS station said that they will not ship it unless it has the factory orange tip on it because of the federal laws. FedEx won't ship it either. Is this just in Cali or is this a UPS/FedEx rule elsewhere? It really has me steamed right now.

here's what i usually do:

1. put it in a box, and bring it in to the shipping store already packaged
2. call it "sporting equipment"
3. ship it

the only time that wouldn't work is if its going out of the country and has to pass through customs.

if you really want to, you can usually find the orange tips at airsoft stores. im sure they would be happy to let one go for a couple bucks. failing that, just spray paint the last 1/2" of the barrel orange. the CA "factory orange tips" are usually just the very last half inch or so painted.

comedy third option: get the hell out of the peoples republic of california.

AHHH Packaging....I had it in a box but the box wasn't tapped closed. I had no tape. The guy opened the box and that's what started all of this. So I can just tape up the box myself and take it in and the guy can't do anything about at that point...unless he rememders me and decides to be a jerk about it.

you might also take it to a different store, just to be on the safe side. depends on how extremist the employee wants to be if he remembers you. it is after all california, you never know.
