Battery Bay Dimensions in KWA KM4 Crane Stock?

Postby Chachi » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:26 pm

I know, random query, but I am in need of this information. In the near future, I will be purchasing a KWA KM4 RIS. I am looking for the dimensions (LxWxH) of the battery bay in the crane stock, or what the max size of battery that can fit in the stock. I have a guy that I purchase my batteries from, and I can either select a pre-built pack that would fit, or he will make one for me, but I of course need to know size restrictions. Being that I am looking to go with a lipo pack, it won't be the nunchuck style, but a rectangular pack. If anyone has one of the KWA AEGs that has the crane stock battery compartment, I would really appreciate some idea of the size of the chamber within the stock. Thank you!!!

Why isn't it possibly to have a nunchuck style LiP?

It fits a small type 9.6 nunchuck with just a bit of wiggle room.

I'd give you specific dimensions, but every ruler in my house seems to have gone into hiding at the moment.

A Vernier caliper is better suited for the job, anyway.

Well, I know that it can accept either nunchuck style or standard pack style, but my battery guy does the standard style. I have been researching trying to figure out this info, but haven't had any luck. I just figured that someone with the gun in hand might be able to let me know. I was even given these pictures directly from KWA, but was not provided the dimensions:

Oh wow! I totally hadn't even thought of putting a battery into the butt plate itself!

Hey Mini-Marine, did you ever by chance find a measuring device of any kind? I am still looking for this information. Thanks!

It's about 3/4" by 3/4" x 5". However, it's a circular compartment. I tried slipping a lipo that was 3/4" x 5/8" into the side, and it wont' fit because it's a rectangular cross section. The corner of the battery hits the edge of the stock tube area.

Have you tried the cylindrical Li-ion batterys?

Those would probably fit. There was room, just not for the 1100Mah 11.1v Lipos that Airsoft Outlet NW had.

Here is the email I got from KWA Tech Support about the two pictures I posted above that they sent me:

I will explain that the stock cover internal dimensions are 4 x 1.25 inches. The RA Tech battery you see resting comfortably inside the cover measures 3.5 x 1 inches. The plug is a small type Tamiya style connector on all models besides the SR12.(comes with a large type connector + large to small adapter)

Kind Regards,

Nathan
KWA Customer Service

So he is saying that a 88.9mm (L) x 25.4mm (W) battery is what size the one in picture above is, which is a little bigger than 3/4" x 3/4" x 5" or 19.5mm x 19.5mm x 127mm that you mentioned. Commie, are you measuring inside the chamber? Do you put your battery inside the chamber, or in the door like in the picture?

Sorry for all the questions. I just have a battery guy that make good quality packs are great prices, but I nneed to give him dimensions to work with. So far, this info has been tough to come by. Thanks again for the help!

I measured the side compartments where the side angle of the stock is. That's where we've been sticking the batteries we use.

One on each side.

Cool. I am looking to run lipo, so my pack will be a rectangular one similar to the one in the stock cover on the picture above. That is why I am trying to figure out the dimensions of the inner chamber as opposed to the smaller round chambers on the sides. I may just get my gun in hand first, because at this point I haven't even held a KWA! The darn newb that I am! Thanks though!

Just to update this thread with the information I was looking for, as per KWA staff on the KWA forums:

Maximum dimension for Lipo packs

100mm x 30.60mm x 16.45 mm

The Ni-cad or NiMh battery size are 2/3A

Maximum dimension for Li-mn, Li-ion

140mm (L) x 18.24 (Diameter)
