If you have a voltage meter, test the wires at the battery connection on the gun. Set it to ohms, and pull the trigger, if the meter moves, it works. I doubt it will be your connection tho if the gun worked when you put it away.
It could be many things. Could be corrosion on the trigger contacts from sitting, could be a loose motor wire, on and on. I would take it to a store and have somebody look at it.
