New AEG line from KRISS / KRYTAC

We had a chance to catch up with KRISS USA about their recent announcement to enter the Airsoft market with KRYTAC. They had several prototypes on display at Machine Gun Vegas. Our good friend Allen Lau, formerly of KWA, was nice enough to give us the low-down on some of the things KRISS to doing with this new line of products.

Firstly, I think it's important to mention that KRISS is building AEGs entirely from the ground up, from internals to externals. Everything they're building is compatible with standard V2 gearbox AEG parts, there's nothing proprietary. It's the basic Tokyo Marui style spec, so you should be able to use a huge variety of external parts from many manufacturers, if desired.

The gearboxes look really solid, with a reinforced front end so they can handle high powered springs without cracking. You'll also have 1 screw to remove in the rear of the gearbox for easy access to that spring when you want to swap out. All parts inside are reinforced and high quality, the gears are made with a metal injection molding (MIM) process.

They've also got a new MOSFET chipset which is designed with safety and fail-safes in mind so that better discharge rate LiPo batteries could be used. AEGs will come wired for blade fuse or small tamiya.

They've gone with a barrel style hopup unit, as Allen demonstrated it actually clicks as you adjust it and holds is position very well. In addition to this they've got a firefly bucking design with material that should be more oil resistant and water resistant, which is a problem that's plagued many AEGs.

A bit on the externals – some of the parts you see are KRISS designed. The stock is their custom design, as is the trigger guard. They've also got a working bolt catch, which is apparently less complicated because the entire thing doesn't have to come apart in order to remove the gearbox, it pushes a button on the gearbox itself – so that's one less thing to have to tear down. They have their own rail design in the works too.

The selector switch is ambidextrous. As well, there's a built in feature to release the tension on the spring by simply using the selector switch, previously some manufacturers had built this function into the forward assist. ICS also had this on their 2014 M4.

They plan to release more information at the IWA conference in March, and we're looking at possible product release by around April. KRYTAC AEGs are estimated to have a $300-400 price point.
