VSR type tightbores - who makes tightbores any more?!

Postby Nox » Sun Nov 08, 2009 10:40 pm

Ok, I sold 'The Beast' (My RPK-74) and I need to replace the tightbore in it.
I've been looking around for a 6.01 inner dia. barrel and have so far, found them to be retartedly expensive (PDI 650mm - $194.95, EdGI 650mm - $110.00) and have looked for a few brands I know offhand..

Now, I was wondering if anyone could help me with providing information on manufacturers of tightbore barrels.
So far, I know of these manufacturers:
PDI
KN
EdGI
KM/Head 1950
Laylax
Classic Army

Now originally I was looking for a 6.01 diameter barrel, but I could settle for a 6.03 so if you know of a manufacturer that has one that size that isn't listed please feel free to include the information. Also, snipers - if you have any experience with any of these brands, feel free to add your opinions on them. I want a barrel that is VSR compatible, that will give me good groupings and is not brass. Even if it isn't VSR compatible, I can mod it so it's all good.

Thanks for any input

I like my Precision Shot Industries (made by Bill Youngblood). It's 6.02mm SS. Although I'm not sure if he is making them anymore.

For every action (Bang) there is an equal and opposite reaction (HIT!)

Had that one in the RPK, and was trading it between my M700 for sniping.
I am looking for something tighter if I can get it for an affordable price - 150 is a tad bit high for my blood.

I'll ask to see if Bill is still making barrels - that's one avenue I didn't think about.

What I noticed is, if you check the PDI Website, they claim their 601 barrels for some extra fps and suggest their 605 barrels for precision.

So, what are you lookin for???

PDI 605 are much cheaper than 601.
You could take a look at Prometheus barrels too.
Nearly as good as PDI and even cheaper.

Prometheus also makes barrels.
Systema makes barrels, but they're only 6.04

I've decided that I am going to go with a Prometheus barrel for my M700. I'll have to cut the collar in it for the hopup bucking, but that isnt a problem.
I nearly swallowed my tongue after seeing the price PDI has on their barrels, I can order a custom EdGI barrel for what they want for a 650mm!
Also, I was reading reviews for many of the barrels listed here and found the positive reviews regarding Prometheus and an M700 to be frequent.
I don't need to worry about bringing my fps up since I can adjust my regulator and bolt to bring me where I need to be - accuracy and consistency is my #1 concern.
Thanks for all of the input everyone!
