Strange sniper behavior

Postby phiz » Wed Oct 13, 2010 12:41 pm

I have two snipers that I ran on sunday, both springs (one JG BAR10 and one UTG). The JG had a cheap spring that started out at 550fps and compressed itself to 350 by the end of the game, so I put a M170 spring in after the game. I didn't use the M170 for the game because it was hitting 600 fps.

With a new spring and freshly lubed cylinder, the JG chrono'ed at 500. The UTG was previously at 500 but chrono'ed at 420.

The very next day, no changes, the JG chrono'ed at 580 and the UTG was back to 500. Same bag of .2s, same chrono (swiss arms). Same temp and humidity. The JG had a fresh spring and lube, the UTG had an old spring and old lube.

What could be going on? Any suggestions appreciated.

Are those an average or just single shots.

Could be leaking?

maybe the snipers were tired of being your slaves, so they decided to shoot lower fps.

First thing I would do is thoroughly clean everything and then reassemble the rifle, making sure everything is fitted properly. Teflon tape the hop bucking, screw on the cylinder head nice and tight, clean the barrel. Then I'd check again for weird behavior

Averages. The shot - shot variation is about 5 fps. The JG has the hop up taped really tight. I think next I'll get my compressor out and pressure test it.

Maybe it leaks with a lot of usage and then the bucking sticks after a while. Along the lines of the "tired slave" theory.
