L96 TBB and Hopup

Postby Kodiak911 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:05 pm

I am looking to upgrade my TSD L96. After a week of research I need some clarification on which barrels are compatible with what Hop ups.

Most data is for the UTG 96 and the Maruzen. Are the upgrades all the same? Meaning-the upgrades for the TSD will fit in the UTG and Maruzen??

and what size do I need to purchase? I have seen shooters using an M-16 barrel but modifying it. I really want accuracy without the DYI mods.

There are quite a few shooters with the same questions: Which upgrades should be used, sizes, and in which order.

Thanks a ton.

Alot of the DIY mods make a big difference in accuracy for the lower quality rifles.

That said, the TSD/Well/UTG L96 is compatable with maruzen '96 parts.

A UTG or Echo 1 ASR upgrade kit with some teflon tape gets you right to 550, do that first and switch to .40, then see if you need a barrel.

Or you can get a new barrel and hop up parts, and have less strain on the gun, overall quieter, and still very effective. You don't need to be at 550fps to be effective. My 430fps VSR-10 proves that, and you can't hear it past 15-20'.

The barrel has a specialized hop-up cut called and APS2 cut after the system. Dwayne Dees has designed a very nice APS barrel for Precision Combat Technologies that comes in 499mm (stock length) or 590mm if you want to get the silencer adapter and throw a silencer on. These are 6.01mm and with the upgrade kit we saw most guns shooting about 560fps.

Most L96s on the market, and nearly all the chinese ones (UTG Shadow Ops, Echo 1 ASR, TSD96, and Cybergun Mauser) are all clones of the Maruzen APS2 and are identical guns aside from stock/color/accessories included.

The UTG upgrade kit is the best one on the market and generally runs between $25 to $45.

I would recommend the following:

Thank you. This is great news. What are your recommendations for a upgrade trigger and Hopup.

you can go full out with the clone thing and buy a pdi l96 hop up clone... http://www.gunnerairsoft.com/catalog/pr ... ts_id=1371
for the trigger system, you would probably have to go with the pss96 z trig.

Before you go spending big bucks on your gun, think about what you want your goal to be with your gun.

You do not need to update the trigger unless you are going to want to run some serious spring power through your gun (around 600+). If you get the upgrade kit (spring, spring guide, piston), you should be shooting generously over 500 if everything is put together correctly and most AirsoftPacific FPS maxes are 550. I have the upgrade kit in, I have friends with them in as well, and the original trigger is fine. keep in mine the Zero triggers usually run well over $100 and can still break.

The stock hopup is actually a decent hopup. For $35 you can get a 6.03 madbull tbb (rumor is they are making 6.02 now for the L96) and be able to get fairly good accuracy at 250+.

The HP is a good hopup (i own one) and it is neat to be able to put AEG barrels in so that you have longer barrels which I cover up with a pvc silencer. Though it is only $25 bucks, you also have to have it shipped from Hong Kong because the US doesn't sell it. I think it ran me about $13 in shipping.
