a good sniper for starter

Discussion about sniper rifles or bolt-action.

That involves a lot more than just getting a bolt-action rifle (or, as you shitstains call it, a "sniper"). I've only known 3 or 4 people on all of AP to actually hold their own as snipers using decent technique and a few years of experience and skill. Don't be an idiot.

Listen, I've been tagged once with a bolt gun; at a reasonable distance, it was like getting punched. I don't want anybody with less maturity that a senior member of AP slinging .43g bb's around the field unless they have experience. Don't go for a bolt gun if you want to shoot fools; that's what AEG's are for. Just get a decent AEG and have fun like the rest of us...

Don't just buy a sniper rifle and run around with it like a rifleman. Beyond just the rifle... ditch your black vest and get yourself a good ghillie suit. Learn how to add extra foliage to it and blend in. Get yourself an extremely reliable radio with an expensive throat mic. Learn the basics of radio communications (several great posts about this if you search) and be a recon asset to your team.

To become a sniper, one must first become himself. Then he shall know the universe.

Get an M14. It has a long inner barrel and is a good rifle. Tune it up right to 400fps and practice using realcaps and semi as a sniper. You don 't get that much more range from a bolt action, and the costs to make it accurate are far more than getting a good M14 that will do both roles well.

Get good with an M14 as a "sniper" then sell it (easy to sell as it's a popular model) and get a bolt action. If you can do well with an M14, you'll just do even better with an M24 or SUPSAER9.

A derail the topic a bit, I've always wanted to do this only for the fact that I think it'd be cool to do this, maybe only more practical to do in a WW2 re-enactment but I think it'd be fun to go bolt-action with no scope and only sights.

EDIT: Though obviously if I/you chose to do this best idea is to keep the fps to 400 like a normal AEG, maybe even less

Airsoft is well within iron sights' range.

You don't need a ghille to be a sniper. You need patience and a willingness to low crawl and wait for a shot that doesn't give away your position.

Actually, that's just a good tip for using any weapon in airsoft. Not the only way, sure, but I'm overly fond of ambushes.

You could get an AEG... OR you could buy a nice bolt-action and spend the next three years tuning it up and upgrading so that it is at the height of its performance. In the meantime, practice the above stated recon tactics, but also try to help your team by pushing the enemy lines back one man at a time. Those two things, coupled with a nice relief scope, a quick bolt pull, some non-restricting 3D camouflage, the toned ability to remain undetected, and patience will make you a nice Sniper, a few years from now.

I would suggest not getting the SVD, but only because I hate the AK style...
