Are the SVD side scope mounts and AK side scope mounts the same?

They should be. Depends on the brand, but I believe chances are that if it fits one, it will fit the other.

I think they usually are. I have a scope mount for an SVD and it also fits on AK's.

NO NO NO! Almost all SVD style scope mounts do *not* match AK style scope mounts. Some are produced outside the standard spec, and will work with the other type, but this is rare, and is an indication of a really cheaply made product.

They are not interchangeable? If so, then why can I mount a PSO-1 or a 1PN58 on both an AK and on a SVD?

If you are talking about the side rail, the part that you attach the mount to, then yes they are different. In terms of a mount though, they are interchangeable.

Unless we are talking about shitty capitalist rail system. Then there could be some weird voodoo shit doing on there...

I know this is an older post, but why not weigh in for anyone else who wants to know. Mounts can be interchangeable, usually not perfectly so however. For instance, I use a CYMA AK mount, which of course works perfectly on my AK. While it WILL mount to my dragunov with no problems, it puts the scope too far over the gun so you have to do some time-consuming adjusting with your scope and practice to be an effective sniper. So yes, sometimes they will work. But AK mounts are simply not built for SVDs. I don't even think they make weaver rail scope mounts for SVDs specifically, unless you track something down actually produced for the real steel firearm.
