You can do neither, since they both fire a much longer round than the 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 that AK 47 and AK 74 rifles fire. You would have to adapt the mag well at the least, as well as change the receiver if you wanted it to be an SVD.

I would suggest selling your AK and finding an SVD.

Actually, it's 7.92x57, but I wouldn't expect an inept 14 year old to know that.

I would suggest building a Tabuk, which is an Iraqi variant of the AK47. It fires 7.62x39mm ammo and uses the same receiver, only with a 24.5 inch barrel.

The DMR... one of the dirtiest projects in airsoft.
The only lower project is the "G36+Boxmag=MG36"

Remember; in order to be a legit DMR your AEG must not be mechanically able to fire in full auto. Also the gun must be recognizably identifiable as an accepted DMR rifle.

You might be able to get away with a Semi only Tabuk as a DMR.

Don't get too excited. Long barrels for AKs aren't exactly thick on the ground, and if you want to use "proper" East-Bloc optics, expect to pay a pretty penny. Also, assuming your gun has wood furniture, you'd need to hollow out the stock. While Darwin would love for you to use a reciprocating saw unattended, your parents probably would not.

As much as I hate the idea of you mutilating a perfectly fine AK, I have some old parts from a JG SVD that would come in handy, sense the JG SVD is pretty much an AK internally except with a longer barrel. PM me or check my classfieds if you are interested.

Also, I am planning on buying and reviewing an affordable SVD that S&T makes, which is a clone of the realsword SVD. You might want to hold off and save your money until I can get a review up on it, as the SVD is an excellent DMR platform, and the cash you will end up putting into your AK will probably end up costing the 300$ for the S&T.

Or, you can turn your AK into a franken DMR that will pretty much be a longer barrel AK without the ability for spray and pray :P

The Tabuk actually looks like it would be a legit project, and since Lipos are so damn proliferant these days, slicing up the stock wouldn't be a big deal.

Go for it, dude. If you can find the barrel for it I would gladly lend a hand with the sawing of the stock. I'm not a big AK fan by any means but a custom project is usually awesome. Plus you'd have bragging rights as the only person around with a Tabuk.

It wouldn't matter one way or the other if he cut up the stock, since AK batteries go in the upper receiver ;) . If you take Cloudyrain's Dragunov, make sure to only use it for the outer barrel. The handguard and stock are both wrong for a Tabuk (and flimsy because of shite QC) and the internals are hopeless crap. If you want to be extra anal-retentive about accuracy, tear off the bipod because real Tabuks don't have one. You could also look for shorter style AK mags.

WRONG.
Many Kalashnikov batteries go in the stock.

Two examples off the top of my head: The old-school G&G RK47 (dont know about new ones) and the CYMA AK47 with the hilarious Kalashnikov trades.
