WE Tech 1911 vs Army MEU. Same thing?

Postby STU » Fri Jan 01, 2010 2:16 pm

Just wanted to get the insight from those that know their 1911's. Are the WE and Army 1911 models the same deal? Clones? Re-brands? Same Brand?

Is one better than the other? Or is there a better 1911 model I should be looking at for the buck? I've been looking at the Army version on RSOV and its priced plus shipping in the $80-$90 range.

Pros, cons? Opinions? Facts? What say the 1911 using community at large?

I own the ARMY MEU and my friend has the WE 1911 MEU. I think the WE is a superior pistol, the insides aren't painted with cheap paint like in the army, so the gas system and the slide guide rails dont get gummed up with paint. Also it comes with an extra magazine and the grips are actually rubberized instead of just creaky plastic.

That right there is pretty flat out sexy 8)

My old requirements I've come up with so far was:

1)Full Metal

2)Tac Rail

3)No Chrome/Gold

That one fits all of them. Nice find. :D

Do all the WE GBB's come with 2 magazines? It doesn't mention anything on RSOV.

I don't mind not have trades on my weapon, I'd probably have it engraved with something cool anyways and replace the grips.

all the MEUs that ive seen come with two i think. the other ones only have one mag. if you want something more dependable, id recommend getting TM mags for it. the WE ones are notoriously bad.

The Army MEU is not the same as the WE. The Army is a TM clone while the WE and TM are not the same in the lower. TM mags and WE mags are not interchangeable.

WE mags wont work in a TM, but TM mags do work in the WE.

WE MEU comes with ONE magazine, vs the standard WE 1911 "black box" guns which come with two. However, you can use the "black box" mags in the MEU. They don't have the small rounded extension on them or the silver finish that the MEU mags have, but they work fine.

The WE model is fantastic. You won't be disappointed with the WE at all. I own one, I love it. The grip is perfect for my hand even with my traditional "death grip" I maintain when shooting. I haven't handled the other version by Army.

If you purchase the WE and want extra magazines, get WE mags. They're cheaper and guaranteed to work in your gun instead of the TM mags.

they also fail MUCH faster. i have six WE 1911 mags that ive had for a year or two. only one is in working order now. four have swollen to the point where they have to be forced into the magazine well, and are a huge pain to remove. one broke the follower, which is an easy fix but still disables the magazine. i can get the WE mags for a screaming deal, and i still want more TM ones for my gun.

i LOVE the gun. don't like the magazines.

I agree the WE 1911 is an amazing gun but the mags fail on you easily,

But Dang will they have a great time.
