How do I remove a Tanaka S&W M500's orange tip?

Postby Rainmaker » Sun Aug 14, 2011 7:48 pm

I can't simply pull the tip off. I'm wondering if I should put acetone soaked paper towels on the tip and see if the orange simply wears off to reveal a shiny compensator. or maybe i should just take the front end to a grinding wheel?
I'd like to post an photo but I have no idea how so here's a link to the gun

contrary to the link, the entire compensator is bright orange[/img]

if its just orange paint on metal, you should be able to acetone it. be very careful though, as the acetone will melt and deform any plastic it comes in contact with. only use as much as is necessary.

after spending 30 mins with the damn thing, i found a way to unscrew the compensator. takes a 1.5mm allen key to take out the set screw under the front sight

i figured it would be removable. if you want, you can try and find some silver spray paint and paint it.

im thinking of just sawing down the compensator so it sits flush with the outer barrel (the comp holds the outer barrel on the gun. without it, the barrel slides right out.) then i'll just paint the front of it black. but i can try the silver paint
