Best GBB 1911 manufacturer?

Postby Hoff » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:45 pm

Specifically, I'm looking for:
Metal slide and frame
Single stack
Beaver tail
Grips that wrap around the front strap (not a deal breaker)
Prefer Commander length (not a deal breaker)

I was originally looking at WE; but from what I've read, they have some issues.

WE is similar to A&K in that they are a mixed bag.
The High-Capa's are fun, but gas whores and break easily.
The Caspians are a joy, and if you browse them stickies you'll be able to get them running even better than they do standard.
I am a huge proponent of the WE 1911's because I had a beautiful one for almost a year. I did the little washer mod, shimmed magazines, and only had to replace my barrel bushing/guide rod combo twice.
I would run this baby into the ground in CQB, putting up to 10 magazines through it in a single life, without major cooldown issues. I did have slide lock problems after about 6 months, but whatever. Outdoor, I could get decent range and accuracy with .25's, and looked boss doing it. Just heat them magazines up and you're good all the way down below freezing. Sure the KWA is great, no arguments there. But the WE's do alright.

I love my WE. I'm not sure they'll come with the grips you're looking for, but it's not hard to get real 1911 grips.

I've heard good things about the Tercel 1911. Its a clone of the TM 1911 so much so it even says TM on the frame. The aftermarket part support is epic since everyone makes stuff for TM ;) The only reason I haven't gotten one is that I already have a TM MEU lol.

The KWA definitely looks interesting.

I wish they made the MK2 without the rail. Normal barrel, no FLGR, speed hump on the beaver tail.

And who actually uses a bull barrel? Honestly.

Also, I wish the mags weren't $40 each...

Performance wise I love the KWA 1911 series.

The WE models are decent, but if you shoot them a lot they use more gas, don't shoot quite as far as the KWA, and eventually wear out sooner because in most WE pistols, the metal is softer than in KWAs.

KWA PTP Mark series. I have the IV and love it, and getting spare parts for them is a no brainer. When on their website, pulled up an Illustrated Parts Catalog, identified my two missing parts by part number, called them up and the parts shipped next day. Great customer service!
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon

I'm pretty happy with my KJW 1911. evike and airsoftGI have it on sale. around $100-110 with upgraded grip and gas/co2 single and double stack mags.

I personally like WE cause if you are on a budget you can get a lot of bang for your buck. If you aren't on a budget, look into the WA series. I haven't owned one, but I handled and played with one. They are blooding expensive, but they run like butter. I have no experience with the KWA PTPs at all.

I've used a few of my friends KJW 1911s. They are almost bulletproof, however the mags always find ways to leak, and eventually the hammer starts to get stuck on the slide resulting in cycling problems.

Otherwise they shoot pretty darn accurately with minimal cool down, although if you had the money you should go with a KWA. You can't beat their customer support.

Western Arms? Stupidly expensive, but perhaps the best.

Oh nevermind I got beat to it..

Regarding air-soft 1911's...

For reliable builds, TM and TM based.
For out of the box use, TM and KWA PTP's.
