I actually last year got a softshell at Fred Meyer that was OD and tan and I love the thing. Regular clothing stores are getting softshell types in stock, and if you're not looking for MultiCam I wouldn't skip them, at least for price browsing.

Did not read the whole thread.

Propper makes expensive softshell stuff.

Arch'teryx makes really expensive softshell stuff.

I like my Columbia Titanium, which wasn't so expensive.

TAD Gear, hands down. I own 2 of their jackets and they are the most comfortable, well fitting, well engineered jackets I have ever worn.

I am a big fan of wind jackets as well..the Orc/Patagonia PCU one and the Marmot Driclime are both awesome.

ECWCS System. Not sure if it's even available on the civilian market but it's worth a google, it's what we all got issued in Califas before we took off. Outstanding stuff comes in 7 sets, all the way from bleeding arctic style to your basic silk weights. I really dig the foilage green fleece and tan lvl 2 jacket, and the rain jacket was good stuff too.

I have both 5.11 SABRE and RAID jackets. I've had zero issues with quality or taking my abuse.

without a doubt TADgear. i own several of their jackets and love every since one of them. I know its expensive but i prefer to buy the best. But i also use most of the money the navy gives me for airsoft stuff so if your looking at saving some money dont listen to me.

ECWS is just your extreme cold weather system. It's a layer, and the softshell is one of the layers. The current popular one is the PCU or whatever, that people see on militaryphotos.net in "ranger green" so they want it.

And I am totally jealous of units who have it. Fuckers.

PCU and ECWCS are completely seperate entities...they have a lot in common but there are some major differences.

And, fwiw - its 'alpha green' or 'grey green' - I have a pieces from the system and really like them.

Condor is a few months away from releasing their own softshell jacket.

Don't have a pricepoint yet, but you can bet I'll get it day one.
