Warning: Molay + PenCott

I have been pushing / praising MOLAY M.U.D. for a while, and their cheap prices.

Molay is an Indonesian company that makes cheap BDU's in various cuts, and have a lot of rare patterns + cheap prices.

I'd just like to take back my recommendation publically and warn people about them. They have been telling me they were going to get PenCott fabric to make uniforms now for like 5 months, and their costs fluctuate highly. At first they told me $130 a set + Shipping.

Now they are telling me it's going to be about $225 per set + $60 shipping. And an increase in price if it's "Large sizes" (anything larger than Medium Regular).

Also, a former CAG teammate, Stroom (Radian) moved back to Indonesia and has dealt with them personally and says they are unprofessional. Their prices fluctuate, and they increased the cost after he put a down payment and he ate the cost. He ended up paying $80 a set for OD BDU's.

I am not here to complain about them. They have a customer base. But I feel the need to publically warn people because I've already praised them so much and don't want my name associated with working with them.

If it counts, they respond timely and are always polite.

It would be cheaper to import small Indonesian children to sew Pencott uniforms for you in your basement. If you had a basement.

Damn - that sucks. I know they've been having some teething troubles with their new designs and that they've been struggling to keep up with the demand for their PenCott stuff, and I know that pricing can be difficult to nail down and that it can change because of labor costs and material costs, but still.... At this rate, you'd probably be better off to go with SpecOpShop in Texas, or wait for Drop Zone Tactical in Canada to launch their PenCott line (soon).

By the way, I raised the complaint about the price rise with Arie from Molay and his reply was that it was regrettable, but necessary because the uniforms actually need more material than he had originally calculated, and he also seems to have miscalculated how much some of the shipping costs and import duties were going to be for the PenCott fabric.

It is regrettable.

He is very quick to respond, but I realized that with the shipping of a uniform around $56 from Indonesia, he just can't beat closer manufacturers to the US.

I am trying to get a deal with Specops.PL for uniforms (Polish) and if that is too expensive (last quote was 130 EU for a set, though that was before they began production), then I will probably end up using specopshop.com (American company). They are also having a transitionary period as they move production from one state to another to improve quality control.

I hear good things about Drop Zone Tactical, but I thought they only did coats and some limited gear?

UW Gear makes some excellent chest rigs and specializes in gear for AK lovers. They do PenCott as well as A-TACS variations. If I get another vest, I'd look into theirs:

Drop Zone Tactical has a lot of very high quality stuff, but it's quite expensive for an airsofter. SABRE (German company) also makes very high quality sniper suits and other items, but again, the top tier companies are top tier prices. You get what you pay for.
