Lefty holster friction only?

Postby bye » Mon Aug 06, 2012 9:32 am

I am looking for a good holster to be mounted ideally on a drop leg that is friction ONLY. No thumb release or SERPA style release. Is this possible? If not I'll look in to a lefty SERPA drop leg platform for 1911s.

As stated, I need a 1911 holster, specifically, WE 1911 MEU Single stack.
Bye.

How does the spring lever work though? Is it secure without using it?

Fobus and Uncle Mike's makes some great holsters if you don't want a switch or button. I would suggest going with a belt mount though. Having stuff stuck on your legs can slow you down.

you hit the spring lever with your thumb to release the hood. ASGI doesn't sell OSH (the open top series) for lefty if you want a g-code you'll need to go to their main website http://www.tacticalholsters.com/category/OSH.html

or you can find a lot of local places that make kydex holsters

Why do you not want Level 2? Friction can and will loosen over time and with drawing/reholstering. To many people come to the game host after a game and ask if their $100+ pistol was found. I've never lost a pistol using an active retention holster.

I am considering going with a SERPA still, I've just liked the idea of a friction holster so there was no buttons or levers to be pushed before drawing. Price-wise, are G-Codes worth their price?

Also, being very short, my plate carrier often covers my holster when worn on the pants(my SERPA+Paddle combo)

IIRC, G-Code makes real holsters, but this just happens to be the Airsoft line. AirsoftGI ran over one with a BMW, so, it must be pretty sturdy. (But that had a pistol in it as a internal structure, so I'm not sure if it's totally true)

With a SERPA, it's pretty intuitive, because when you grab the pistol out from the holster, your finger is on the button, and a slight push is all it takes to get it out of the holster. If you watch a video of it, you'll see what I mean.

If your plate carrier covers your belt line, I would then consider mounting it directly on your Plate Carrier, or doing a drop leg setup. Be warned though, drop legs can be somewhat cumbersome. If you can, I would consider going to AONW, and trying the selection of SERPA holsters they have there.

With a SERPA, all you do is keep your trigger finger straight. The button is just far enough out from the body of the holster that keeping your finger straight while drawing will release the button and place your finger on the frame just above the trigger.

Dont sweat using any level of security holster. I used a level 3 Safariland holster (oo7) when I was on bike patrol and was as fast or faster than an average shooter with it ( Glock 17). It just takes a little practice(10 minutes) and you are good to go. You will be mightily pissed if you loose your pistol while crawling through the woods due to inferior retention. For pistol protection I have actually gone back to an old flap style holster for my hunting handgun. The SERPA holsters mentioned are pretty secure/fast, I own several and do recommend them for AS pistol. See if you can try out some different stuff before you buy.
