Slings and a Chest Rig

Postby Reeko » Thu Apr 04, 2013 4:23 pm

Im having a tough time routing my sling with my chest rig, it gets snagged everywhere, and is ridiculously uncomfortable. im using an magpul MS3 sling right now, but i dont like it at all really. Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for either routing this sling in a particular way, or a different sling that will work better for what i need it for. I Prefer a single point sling.

I noticed the sling mechanism on many (if not all) of the CIRAS PC's, do they make something like this that would work well with a Chest rig?

Is your vest tightly and properly strapped to your body so there isn't any play when you run around? If it's loose, and the sling is loose, then they can tangle.

I like two point slings. Simple original that works, though I have a modernized one in the Vickers sling from BFG.

If the vest is tight a wolf hook works wonders.

Not sure if this helps, but I run my sling through the drag handle on the back of my vest. Granted I use a 2 point sling with the two clips mounted on the same ring of my sling atatchment point.
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving isn't for you.

With my plate carrier I run a single point bungee sling ran through the shoulder pads and ziptied to the drag strap. This works well and keeps the weight/pressure off your neck.

With a chest rig I run a two point sling. I keep my rig tight and my sling somewhat loose. I have no issues with it getting hung up unless i try to swing my rifle behind me, though I don't really do this in game.

2 point is the way to go. Vickers or a LBT 2500BZ. Something that can be easily adjusted on the fly.

If you do decide to get rid of the MS3, let me know. I still like them.

Sometimes having a sling that gets caught up in gear is a sign of too much gear, ill fitted or assembled gear, or a sling that's routed improperly. If you come visit me at the Outlet, I can show you how I use mine and see if that helps.

Good old-fashioned carabiners don't hurt, either.

I like my MS3. Isn't it a one point to two point adaptive sling as well?

and i do have a lot of stuff on my chest rig, but no more than most

triple m4 mag pouch, utility pouch and a grenade pouch, with a hydration pack on my back. Problem i had was more so, that it was catching on the shoulder straps and moving them around awkwardly

@comiehunter, i had it up in the classifieds a few months ago trying to sell it. And i wish i could stop by the outlet but thats a 260 mile drive.

Ill try it out with my gear in a 2 point style and see how that works out. Thanks for the help guys.

The best thing you can do is post up detailed pics of you in your rig and indicate where the snag points are. I have run MS2s and MS3s on about a dozen different rig configurations with little to no problem. Much of that has to do with me being anal retentive about how I set my gear up and how I tention the sling. In the single point configuration, my sling doesnt move at all for the most part. Im not a big fan of using slings for long foot patrols so the two point doesnt get used much. I find it too tempting to just let the rifle just hang on the sling. So I remove the temptation from the equasion by generally keeping the sling in a one point setup and tucked out of my way.
