Viable alternatives to GoPro/Contour

Postby Tombstone » Sun Feb 16, 2014 9:27 pm

With Contour out of buisness, and GoPro costing move then a year's worth of airsoft games, what are some of the viable alternatives to these action cameras for the budget minded airsofter?

Lets get some impressions on different alternatives, starting with this little number:

Does anybody have experience with the Gear Pro Action Cameras? They seem to be very similar to the GoPros, with remotes to activate your video, shockproof cases, and waterproof cases. However, what seems to put the GoPros and Contours above this particular camera is their plethora of mounting options, which this camera offers....2.

Thoughts?

Contour was bought in October and they're working on reviving it.

I've heard personally that the Tony Hawk cameras are a very good alternative.

So is this NOT the company that was once Contour? Because they look really similar.

Also, this seems like a good alternative for a couple of reasons:
-The weight
-The number of mounting options
-The cost (for the 720, which retails for around 99 bucks, and is good enough for battlecam footage IMO)
-The sacrificial lenses (a 10 pack for 10 bucks? sign me up!)

Good find, NORDIC.

Alien_Hunter: Would the Tony Hawk cameras have any sort of impact protection? I didn't really see anything about them except that they were "Rugged"

I asked a team in the next town over what they were running with and they said the Tony Hawk were what they preferred. That's all I know. You could check customer reviews. However for the $99 you mention, you might want to get that camera. I've learned that you get what you pay for.
