Spring Knife?

Postby Solid » Wed May 13, 2009 12:59 pm

So last night I was watching Deadliest Warrior and saw that Spetsnaz demonstration of their knife, and I thought to myself, 'ya know, that would be quite the airsoft kill if it was possible to make a dummy version of that.' Does anyone think it would be possible to somehow construct an airsoft Spetsnaz spring knife thats safe enough to use and be moderately useful?(or at least entertaining)

I saw that episode too, I think they gave that knife too much credit. One shot and it's done. The entrenching tool cut the head in half, should have won hands down.

To much like throwing knives. Now they have your weapon. I would take the knife that KA-BAR posted a while back that had the gun built into it. But throwing a knife just annoys me. Even if it did good damage.

I want that knife. As far as throwing a knife goes. If it is meant for throwing and you have a couple of them, I think they are very effective, IF you know how to use them. However, there is a difference between fighting knives and throwing knives, and very seldom can a fighting knife become a throwing knife with much effectiveness.

This topic is not about a throwing knife, it is about the Russian Ballistic knife. The operator can depress a button (or some other triggering mechanism) and the blade is then shot out as a projectile. The blade doesn't spin, it just fires straight at the target, apparently fast enough to kill someone.

Initial velocity of the blade is about 40mph without much variation. The real ones are illegal in the states, so its suggested against you making a replica one, even with a rubber blade.

Oh I didnt know they were illegal, I was thinking about hollowing out the handle on one of those replica bayonettes you can get for $10, putting a spring and a trigger in there and then somehow putting a launching rod on the rubber blade part and see how well that works. If its illegal its not worth it.

That knife is something of a joke, but I suppose the mentality is that it's better to have one more option than your opponent. While I missed the episode... as that show is bleeding retarded... the Russian E-Tool is a far more formidable weapon. The triangle handle on the US model makes using it as an ax a little more difficult than the Russian straight handle, but truth is I don't want to get hit with either.

The spring knife is to much of a fear factor weapon. If you shoot it off and don't hit a vital spot the person can still attack you. You are better off keeping the knife and fighting with it. Even with a back up fighting knife I wouldn't want to bother with it.

This is the second episode that I was disappointed with. The knight should have beaten the pirate, easy. I am very happy with the outcome of Spartan vs. Ninja though. The Spartan definitely deserved that win.

I know what a ballistic knife is. If you really want to argue the point the ballistic knife is often used in a throwing motion to give it a little more punch and range as well as add stability to its flight. The post I was responding to was fluffys about his apprehension about throwing a your knife at someone.
