Advice for Modifying Shotgun.

Postby Jebus! » Sun Jan 31, 2010 5:51 pm

I decided it would be fun to modify my DE Tri-Shot shotgun and mount it as a masterkey. I would need to remove the Grip and Stock, that seems like the mount difficult part, and making it look good. The rest would be easy. I would just need to glue or screw rail mounts on the top of the shotgun and put a rail on the bottom of my M16 Handguard. What is the best way going about removing grip and stock?

For those who don't know what a masterkey is: Image

I am choosing to modify my current shotgun rather than buy the G&P, maruzan, tanaka stuff because that is very expensive. And I am rather poor.

Just a word of warning, it might break off under the stress of cocking the shotgun.
My father once told me, "Some times all you have is a bullet and a prayer, don't miss."

The mount to the bottom of the rail will break, or the cheap shotgun will break. It's best to use gas shotguns for masterkeys because you don't have to flex all your custom fittings every time you want to shoot it. Splurge a little and get the ACM gas-powered M500 (~$150). The stock is easily removable and there's no shells to keep track of.

I will look into that. But for the time being, and me being very poor. Would it be worth it to still do this and have it on for the look and intimidation? With little use?

If you use a cheap UTG plastic shotgun, you'll break something before you've completely fired off one shell, unless you somehow manage to convert most of the body and mounting to metal (which would be more expensive than just buying a metal-body gas shotgun),

If you have a proper length gun, you could work it out if you have a good amount of support for the barrel. I would guess you'd need three or four scope ring size mounts spread out along the barrel to provide the amount of support you need to not break/rip off etc.

this is false, and should be disregarded.

alex and i made a masterkey out of a old UTG and two old scope rings, and it is still very functional to this day.

Lol.

Back to the thread: I would honestly go with the ACM M500, due to the fact that it has no resistance in the pump, is metal, shoots gas, and is 8mm. It's a great deal, and it's very reliable. Having been on the receiving end of one, I can say that it hurts, especially in the face.

However, like almost EVERYTHING on AP, it's up to you. You just gotta go with one and try it out. I say go for it, I would love to see more functional masterkeys out there.

Yeeeaaaah.... Mods?

Oh, and one other thing, Jebus, the ACm doesn't use shells so that will be both a blessing and a curse. You don't have shells, but you don't have shells, so every reload is opening the tube and pouring BB's in.
