Slingshot style m72 launcher

Postby RiotingCows » Mon Feb 14, 2011 10:18 pm

So while cleaning my house I came across a long mailing tube.
Having the imagination I have I instantly put in on my shoulder like a rocket launcher and it got me thinking...

If you take one of these (I have the wrapped paper tube not this nifty hard plastic one)

and then put this in it

Attach a teether to the end so you can pull the sling back.

And finally paint it like this.

We all know typical shell launchers are cool but expensive and in the long run don't perform like we'd like them too.

Using tennis balls or racketballs as a projectile to use a rocket launcher or mortar like it should be on the field.

Also, by attaching a swivel and baseplate with a pully could allow you to make a mortar out of it.

Thoughts and ideas on it? And would this even be allowed at a game?
Could be an interesting game changer!

Anyways thats what I spend the last ten minutes thinking about.

I have actually tried this before, and I could not get enough tension to fire farther than 5 feet. I attached a cord to the slingshot and ran it through the back of the tube, like you described. I made it so that 1 person could operate it. However, if you were to find some high quality rubber for the slingshot, and rig up a pulley system in order to pull it back far enough, I believe it could fire maybe 25 feet or more.

Seriously, the most practical kind are the gas pump kind, but those can be dangerous if you don't have experience with PVC and are careless.

Yeah I guess range is an issue but the sling pictured is one of those water balloon slings that boasts 200 yards. I'm thinking if the tube was long enough there would be enough pull to release with good force.

What kind of projectile did you use?
