Does Acetone really work?

Postby Pancake » Sat Apr 09, 2011 2:19 pm

I am attempting to use it to strip the paint off of my AEG right now, but nothing seems to be happening. I am using a toothbrush to try to spread it around and some paint comes off, but nothing really significant to be effective.

Am I doing something wrong or missing something?

If your AEG is plastic, I wouldn't be using acetone on it...

Well if its all metal parts let it sit for a while so it can eat away at the paint. Then scrub it with a brush. You could always just get a soft bristles metal brush like a copper brush or something and just scrape all the paint off that way. I don't really know how hard the metal they use in airsoft replicas is.

if its painted, acetone should work. if its anodized, i don't think it will.

There could be acetone in this, but have you tried "Goof Off"? That stuff has saved me so many times it is ridiculous!

Thats the stuff right there. I used that stuff to strip some powder coat off some wheels a while back. In fact I'm planning on picking up a can today at lunch to strip the orange off the tip of my TMP9 I picked up yesterday.

Also, you can get some Scotch Brite from the hardware store and it's a paint stripper (mechanical) and the thing will be also properly "sanded" for the next paint
