Custom Combat Shirt + Pants

Postby chilicon » Wed Apr 13, 2011 8:39 am

So I wanted to make something like Crye Precision's combat shirt.

But, I didn't exactly know how. There was not really any guides to follow (as far as I knew), and they probably didn't even have what I wanted to do.

So I had to take matters into my own hands...

This is what I came up with after 3 hours of work:

What I did was just add DCU sleeves to the undershirt, and I also put Velcro on the wrists.

Doesn't sound like much, but I haven't sewed in forever...

More to follow! I am going to add elbow slots for Crye pads, and maybe a zip-up collar. But it is going to be done next Tuesday.

I am not half as good as I want to be, but I am twice as good as you think I am.

Thanks man.

I actually kind of like the FROG shirt, since it's so lightweight and sort of stretchy. I think the compression shirt may be kind of hard to sew (I think it requires a serger ).

Anyways, it is definitely a fun project to work on. Can't wait for next Tuesday! 8)

Only thing I need is some lighter zippers. :(

Nice job on your combat shirt project, though, sir..as many people can't sew.

+1...Yes, that is the way to go when making combat shirts almost any good brand of compression type shirt can be modified and attached to uniforms). By the way, when did you want to send me your new At-TACS uniform? I sent you a reminder PM recently and got no response. Just let me know if you're still interested in the conversions KA-BAR. Thanks.

BTW - you likely won't need any extra material for what you want done. Unless there is something custom you want done that would require extra material. You can get your own velcro if you'd like to keep the cost of the services down, though. It's up to you.

And yes...I don't cut corners with my work. In fact I do more than what is asked of me just to show how much I appreciate the business and because that is how every business should be run

:o

Cheers guys!

Later... :D

Thanks for your suggestions, guys.

I think that maybe the next one I work on I will try to find a more fire-resistant underarmour-like material. Is that what the torso of Crye shirts are made of?

I don't have a Crye shirt, so maybe I need to order or borrow one, so I can compare fabrics.

Thanks again!

Updated title, as I now have started working on the pants.

After roughly an hour of work, I came up with a Velcro closure on the back pocket, and a slanted pocket w/ an accessory loop for carabiners and such.

Here is a picture:

Close up of slanted pocket and accessory loop:

Planning on making an adjustable Velcro waist, hemming the pant leg, adding two thigh pockets, a zipper fly w/ Velcro closure, and knee pad slots.

I also removed the cargo pockets, in preparation for adding knee pad slots.

However, right now I have no idea how to make those slots.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Continued to work on the pants today.

Here is what I did:

Just added pockets on the front.

Still need help with the knee pad slots though! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Might do it later if I can. :?

Thanks all!!

Added a collar w/ a zipper to the shirt. Looks really nice on it. Don't have any pictures of it on me right now, since I'm in my uniform.

Today or tomorrow I'm going to try adding knee and elbow pad slots, even though I have no idea how. :(

Yeah, they are pretty awesome. Mine turned out to be pretty sloppy, but I guess it's good for my first time doing pockets. ;)
