60 mm mortar

Postby Heathen6 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 1:59 pm

Going to try to build a 60mm handheld mortar, by handheld I mean you drop a round and it dosent go off until you squeezed the trigger. That brings me to my problems, a trigger mech for it. I would like it to resemble the trigger of the m224. If anyone has any ideas please share.
Hang it.

Sounds pretty sweet I'd build it off a scrapyard launcher so you aren't spending too much on it and then you can just use the grenades it uses

aiming mechanism? legs? perhaps a picture just to clarify the model you want it to look/function like?
I totally think this idea is cool. Problem is, I'd have to have 1lb nerf football darts so that the wind doesnt take it 50 feet in the air off into canada on certain days.

It's handheld no use for legs and no real aiming system Google it.
Hang it.

This shit diagram I made is assuming you are using a 40MM shell and nerf footballs. But this is what I would do if I were doing it like that. Image
Ive done quite a few Pneumatic things so if you need any pointers just throw me a PM, I might be able to help.

I couldn't find a picture of the trigger but you could maybe use a Thunder soundbang trigger and spoon, that way you'd have an easy refuel system and the pressure you need though Co2.
Random idea, see if it helps any.

PVS pipes, ball or butterfly valve, schrader valve and bicycle pump. Done!

OR if you want to use CO2 cartridge this will do...

You can find the CO2 quick change adapter at REI or in bicycle shops.

Why don't you use an already existing launcher like a M203 or one of the hand held pistol style launchers? You could rig it up in some PVC pipe with a wider diameter. You could also extend the length of the launcher tupe like an inner barrel to possibly increase accuracy and distance. You could also use the body of a paintball gun and put it into some PVC pipe and run it off of CO2.

Legion has a pair of something that works. I dont think I'm allowed to release info on how its done, but I know that it works. Ive had it in my direct fireteam.

instead of a 40mm shell you could use a HPA tank that paintballers use

Incidentally, I hear a lot of guys in Afghan started humping 60mm mortars without the base plate or bipod, using the sights with the tube braced in the ground as a counter-ambush weapon. A mortar has a lot of intimidation factor as it's basically a small air strike, so contacts would rather flee when they busted out their mortar. Neat stuff.

http://spudtech.com/ Sells a lot of parts you might find useful, as well as completed launchers. They have modified sprinkler valves that can be used to fire the mortar at the push of a button. I have blueprints for a mortar like the one you want that you can build easily and for a reasonable price if you want them. Similar to the one in the video above but...way better =P
