I'm having the same trouble. I'm triying to convert my RS type 56 to an AKM, but removing the front sight seems imposssible. I tried contacting Real Sword, but they weren't a lot of help, they told me to use professional tools and be careful. I thing I'll buy a type 56-2 barrel and settle with the hooded sight. If you manage to remove it, please let me know how did you did it.

I would like to buy that front sight and bayonet if you can get it off in good shape.

Hey, I've done some research and I found out Type 56 outer barrels are slightly thicker than Eastern european Aks (15.1mm instead of 14.5mm). In this web http://stores.polytechparts.com/-strse- ... Detail.bok they say they are not compatible, so if you manage to remove the front sight maybe you'll find you can't get the AKM sight installed. I've decided to trade my type 56 for a type 56-1 and I'll just Dremmel the hell of the front sight hood, then add some real steel AKM parts.

Yeah I came to realize that after I got the front sight off (hack sawed it off). I'm going to mill my barrel and AKM parts to get them to fit.

Nice job what you're doing there man. By the way, do you know if you can install an AKM gas tube and ribbet top cover as is, or do you have to modify something?
