Classified Ad System : Rock the Vote

Postby Matt » Fri Apr 11, 2008 11:32 am

Ok, I think we've had enough of a "trial period" to decide whether or not we like the new Classified Ad system or we prefer the old system.

Here's my thoughts on the new system...

Pros: Fast image upload requiring no resizing and no remote hosting. Categorized listings so you can find exactly what you want without wading through page after page of threads. Ability to set the status of your item listing to sold, etc. Old listings expire automatically. "Price" has it's own field and is displayed prominently in the listing before you even view the full post.

Cons: Separate from the forums. You have to go and seek out classified ads if you really want to shop, they aren't just posted along with other new forum posts for you to see. No search feature (but there's all of about 20 items in the most popular categories). The comments system is sort of hidden. No BBcode.

Definitely the new system. The downfalls of not having BBcode and not popping up as new posts far outweigh the annoyance of constant bumping and people chattering on about how they can get that cheaper wherever, etc. The free image hosting is a major plus, as well.

I agree with Nocte nearly word-for-word.

i like the new system, but i think it needs some tweaks still to be useful. a search feature as previously mentioned would be nice. also, i really liked the old way of having the sales be posted in with the threads, i cant even count the number of times i stumbled across something that i wasnt really looking for, but ended up buying anyways. would there be some way to have a "show new ads since the last time i logged in" like there is for threads?

The only downside, in my opinion, is the fact that it doesn't pop up when I hit 'Search for New Posts'.

But, when I actually need something, I can go find it. Plus I get the RSS feed anyway. Free image hosting is a bonus.

New system.

New system is way more user friendly, but I think the old thread should have a direct link to the new system.

Wow, somebody uses the RSS feed. Good to know that's being used.

I like the new system, I wish there was a way to bump up your ad

This is exactly what's wrong with the old system. Nothing gets old faster than some retard bumping up a set of woodland BDUs every day for 6 months because no one wants to pay $55 for them.

My only complaint about the new system is that no where in the ad does it say where the seller is located.
You have to go to their actual profile to find this out. It'd be nice to have it listed in the Ad.
