Sensor hit = Car stalls.

If my teacher can't control lasers in the 20ft by 20ft classroom, you can't control an airsoft field of people with lasers... Good idea, but you might need to make sure it has to be a STRONG laser, not a cheap one, otherwise people will cheat with little pocket ones... And forcibly stalling a car doesn’t sound like a good idea either, maybe a noisemaker inside the car instead?...

Uh?

20 ft? Even a laser tag set from Target will out range that. Nevermind the "hobby" guys who build them 100 yards and further.

And "Forcibly stalling a car"? What do you think happens when you turn the key off?

I think he means keeping every swinging cod in the classroom from running around with laser pointers, not the range itself.

Plus, yeah, I'd rather not have my car stall on me in the middle of a field. I lose power steering and my brakes when that happens. Thanks.

I think there's plenty of cheap laser options to be had, it's just a matter of finding something that works. We don't have to follow the government model of spending way too much money on (now) outdated technology that somebody else can make for cheaper. ;)

I'll bet it'll be much cheaper than supplying each team with a bunch of $500 RAP4 RPGs + paintballs.

Let me price out the IR/laser system...I don't forsee it being "REALLY SUPER EXPENSIVE!" to be perfectly honest...

Look at the prices. "MILEStag" and "FragTag"

100 will get you the working circuitry for one unit.

Guys we are getting a little far afield with the laser thingy....most of the people here cannot afford too much extraneous stuff let alone the exotic.......

Then those people won't use vehicles, and it doesn't matter anyway...

The event host could be the one to hand them out. You have to register a vehicle and mount said device on it. To help cover the cost they have to pay a bit more to play the game and maybe a deposit of some kind on the vehicle. It would make for a slow start but if it works well then I think it would pay off.

It seems to me that you'd really just need a laser tag system hacked to have better range etc. Making a cool shell for the system might be a bit costly, but it would still be doable.

See, it makes no sense for someone bringing a vehicle to pay more. They're already paying more to bring a vehicle and fuel it for the game for the benefit of everyone. So on top of that, you're going to make them pay more?!

Or we could just defray the cost of the system over a number of games by just adding a small line item to the budget used to determine the event cost...

Good point. It didn't really cross my mind I guess.

Maybe tie colored flags to the vehicle to determine type and what it takes to kill it?
