My STAR SAW does not utilize a screw for the quick change spring. Slip, are you going to Silverton this weekend? If so, I'll show you the spring swap feature on my SAW. It's quite ingenious.

well, today I've begun creating the basic shapes of the parts, but without dimensions I can't go much further. Would anyone be able to loan me a spare gearbox to take measurements from?

Alright, I should be able to come by some time this weekend if that is alright.
Also, I was curious if anyone would be able to offer advice on measuring tools for small spaces (ie. measuring depth and width of gear teeth) that digital calipers can not fit into?

calipers are the best you're going to be able to do, though you can get them extremely small.

Mini-update

Started on some of the models today, once I get the dimensions I'll plug them in to get the models to their proper sizes and then assemble them into a cycling model. Then comes stress analysis to see if the model we know works in RL does not fail in the program. If that goes okay, then comes modification.
