Casting Call: SCP Foundation Files (Web Series)

Postby faol » Wed Jun 25, 2014 2:12 pm

Hello!

We are film students at Portland State University looking to see if anyone is interested in helping us act in a teaser trailer for a mini web series. We are trying to involve local communities and companies and are contacting you to see if anyone in the airsoft community would like to help. We are looking for four to five people who have their own gear (weapons, tactical looking gear. We do have some outfits and weapons if someone does not have their own gear! We are looking to film the weekend of the 19th of July, and will be filming on Portland State University's campus. Here is the synopsis:

SCP Foundation Files is a web series centering around the pre-existing world of the SCP Foundation. Similar to the Twilight Zone and Cabin in the Woods, SCP Foundation Files centers around a group of agents, researchers and doctors, as they are reviewing over their successes and failures of the past few years capturing monsters, supernatural weapons, and things dangerously out of the ordinary. Each episode focuses on a different creature or object, and the tone ranges from horror to humorous.

We are moving into our marketing stage to help with the fundraising campaign, and are beginning to look into casting and filming our teasers, which will be the main attraction of our campaign. The teaser will be following a group of agents as they do a tactical entry to contain an escaped monster. The camera will follow a group of people as they secure a hall, round a corner, bust open a door and then begin open firing on a "monster." The ending will be of the "monster" dragging a tact team member into the space. The logo and information for the fundraiser will then appear, then the credits. There are no speaking parts.

My name is Caitlin, I am the producer and creator of this project. The director of this teaser is Christian Keller, who suggested you guys as the perfect group to go for to film this.

From the director:

Looking for matched long arms. (M4 by preference.)
Full tactical rig.
Black or Dark Blue ODUs/BDUs. Must be sterile of all patches.
Sidearms, operator preference.
Black boots of at least ankle high, (Jump boots by preference.)
Helmets
Balaclava

We are offering catering on the day of the shoot. Along with this will be credit for the shoot. This is again a student run project working to create a fun and entertaining experience for all parties involved to act as a teaser/lead in trailer for a web series.

Shoot Break Down:

Shoot will be Two Days:

We will be rehearsing/shooting on July 19th and 20th.

Saturday:
Rehearsal est. 4 hours (Weapons Only)
This is not a filming day. This is a day to break down the shot list as well as unit movement.

Sunday:
Shoot day est. 10 hours (Full equipment)

Do you have written permission from the University and Portland Police for this? And are they both aware of the days where people will have replicas on campus?

Sounds like a great idea, and would be fun. But as Jester said, make sure all legal issues are taken care of. The airsoft community doesn't need any more bad publicity.

^ serious business. You don't want the police called fearing another school shooting. Bad news.

Anyways, I don't have black boots, but I might be able to help and I could probably find a pair.

Agreed.

Also, flaunting replicas on a campus is a very risky thing to do.

We are handling the above concerns through the Portland State University Campus Security as all filming will be conducted on campus property. Specifically the subbasement of Cramer Hall and the connecting pedestrian tunnel of Lincoln Hall. They are being in formed through the Student Media Coordinator at this time. As this project is being produced with the aid of PSU TV.

It's good to have the university, and campus security on board. Just curious about where the participants would park? If they have to park where they are transporting their replicas in an area in public view, you could have issues. Even though a lot of us transport in gun cases, they still look like gun cases.
I'm honestly not trying to be a negative Nelly, as I think this is a pretty cool idea. I just want to make sure ALL bases are covered.
There have been a few "less than intelligent" people giving the airsoft community a bad image by brandishing their replicas in public lately.
With the recent shootings, and public heightened awareness of firearms, I don't want to see an innocent thing turn into a big deal.

My suggestion would be to coordinate with security to meet (actors) at a specific parking area at a specific time and then escort them into the building.

Edit: The more I think about this, the more it seems like a bad idea. I strongly encourage you to do this at night, after classes are done. Personally I would look for a different location all together. If you can't get a different location, PLEASE flyer the entire area! We don't want this to become a total shit storm, or 100 times worst, having our boys shot. No one flyered in Oregon City for Operation Red Storm, we had people on the docks and the hill above us freaking out the whole time! Flyer.
Setting up a taped off perimeter for your shoot would be a good idea also. I've worked security for over 20yrs, worked security on PSU campus before, people there have a tendency to overreact, and yes even though its not "cool" some people there do carry concealed sidearms.

Please, if you do this think of our safety first. Secondly, if this becomes a media frenzy it's our a$$ not yours.

Thank you

+1

You should have security with the actors and do it at night, cordon off an area, tell people to spread the word about the filmings. Who knows who has a concealed firearm.

I can see this appearing in the news, someone gets shot, SWAT, FBI and everyone shows up.

Becareful..
