Gents

I recently bought a FAST type of helmet similar to this one.

I'm looking for a radio head set to go with. I was wondering if any of you can recommend one.

Thanks

Because it's actually an entire FORUM, called "Comms."

...It's where the original poster should have posted.

Pretty much most headsets will work with a fast helmet. You can 1)leave the strap on, and run it through the helmet strap system, 2) remove the headset strap and attach it to the rails with the external mount brackets you can buy, or 3) just use the earpiece.
The knockoff headsets are VERY hit and miss, and real Peltors are extremely expensive. The earpeice sets are light weight, and versatile, and don't make your ears sweat like crazy, but again, they're not always the best quality.
I run real Peltors, with the external bracket to the rail on my helmet, and leave them clicked in the position just off my ears, so I can hear the direction external sound is comming from, and it allows air to get in. I love my system, but the headset and PTT new are around $650. Keep in mind if running real headsets, you need a low impedance PTT.

No, if you're running a military radio, you need a low impedance setup. Civi radios, like what we use need high impedance. You can use low imp stuff on civi radios, but you'll be very quiet over the radio so you'll basically need to shout to get people to hear you. Shorty is right that the knock off ones are shitty. If you're looking to invest in a headset, it's worth saving for a real one and not some china crap. If money is an issue, stick to the tried and true 10$ hand mics you can get on ebay. They don't look Gucci as shit, but they work great and if they break you're only out a tenner.

There's also Sordin headsets which can be found for much less. The headband is a bit thicker than the Peltor one, but I never had an issue using it with my helmet. Sordins also come with a behind the headband which works amazingly well with helmets. If you can find one of those, they are totally worth it. If you do go with Sordins (which I have an enhanced version of and love) make sure you get the correct mil plug, and not the LEMO plug. The LEMO plugs are designed for aviation use so there aren't many/any PTTS built for land radio use.
