world war 2 rangers/marines set pics anyone?

Postby I-Rack » Sat Mar 31, 2007 12:57 pm

EDIT: Alright, thanks to PanzerFaust, I found my helmet wasn't a world war 2 marine/ranger helmet, but actully a German postwar M60 helmet. I have a pic of the helmet and the liner up. Anyways, do you guys know of a bdu set that would work with this helmet? It doesn't necessarily have to be in the same era, as long as they look good together. Thanks!

Go to the book store, find a copy of Osprey's "Rangers 1942-1986", or do yourself a favour, dont go Ranger. Talk to Renegade, and work with him at putting together a WWII 101st ABN unit. Let me put it this way, Im working on putting together a couple WWII themed events as soon as theres enough people who are squared away enough that its not a total waste of time, and a 1 man unit isnt going to work. A 1 man unit cant take and hold territory. It lacks a medic, a commander, a weapons operator, and riflemen - and with a Ranger unit name, you'll be treated like it, and 1 man cant do it. You'll be expected to bust your a$$ climbing like a maniac and not doing the fun-stuff.

When it comes right down to it, Airborne and Ranger units use damn near the same equipment, and there isnt the same level of "oh, he thinks he's uber" with an Airborne name, rather than a Ranger name.

not to rain on your parade but that helmet looks more like a Russian WW2 helmet than a U.S. one.

Yeah, thats definately not an M1 helmet.

Rangers basically wore the same thing as regular US Infantry.
HBTs
M41
Webgear

All of this is stuff that Hellmutt can provide you at a very good price (well, its all expensive - but he has really good prices).

Well when I bought it, the sticker said "GI issued helmet liner" on it. I looked it up and it was an M1 helmet liner. So would the helmet possibly be an m1?

I have never seen bolts like that on an M1, nor that type of chin strap.

Chances are the surplus store owner didnt know what it was either, and it looked close enough to an M1 to him.

Huh, that is an interesting helmet. I have no idea what it is though,
It appears to have the general shape of an M1, but it doesnt have a removable liner like the M1 and it has bolts on the shell.

The liner is similar to the German style. Put some chord through the grommets and it will be more comfortable and ride better on your head.

Alright. I'll try looking it up to see what kind of helmet it is.

Look for any stamps or markings on the helmet or liner.
