Any VN teams BESIDES US and VC

Postby Sleepy » Fri Apr 06, 2007 8:17 am

So, most VN mil-sim teams have focused on US Forces and NV/VC forces. Has anyone considered re-enacting different countries, such as the British or the Australians. My grandfather, who was Army Intel in 'nam, once told me that he never stayed with in the American camps, he usually always stayed with the Australians.

I kind of figured, since most of my VN gear and equipment is going to be based off my grandfathers, I should probably ask if anyone has thought to do so?

Military History of Australia during the Vietnam War, for those that find it an amusing idea.

Russian and Chinese advisors, South Koreans, a few Japanese Ground SDF forces in secret called "winter teams" to have some experience just incase Russia/China decided to invade Japan, remaining forces of the Kuomintang that fled south from China instead of Taiwan, Tribal rebels that allied with the South, and Smugglers are a few more choices yo!

Oh yeah, this reminds me of that movie R-Point. South Korean soldiers in nam discover an abandon French mansion only to find out it's Haunted and dood want to kill them. OooohhhH!

That'd be cool, except my Bahdar sucks.

Anyone ever read Bayonet Skies?

Its a novel about a SF Captain who volunteers for a mission in Vietnam (AFTER the war is over), in order to help out an Montagnard rebellion, and rescue 2 POWs (despite the fact that the gov't says there aren't any more POWs). Its really a great read, lots of humor, and it has a lot of useful information about the 'Yards, although you will need to pay attention to whats useful information, since it doesn't always lay it out plain.

I have heard a lot of good things about the ROK's as well as the Australian. How about Montagnardes, should be a fiarly cheap load out. Springer and loin cloth.

I don't think they made Montagnards in size "cornfed".
Please buy your gear from Rick Fisher; perhaps he can buy a Life.

Come on Knuckles . . . . we're not racist here. If you and Raddue want to put on Loincloths and cavort around in the jungle . . . . we'll understand ;)

RoK is a good idea.

Could do a Cambode striker team except it would be very similar to a US SF Vietnam era loadout...hmm.

Actually, Kangeroo, my father carried an M1A1 Thompson he found out in a field. That's really the most we've gotten out of him. He doesn't really like to talk too much about some of his experience. All I know is that he was Army Intelligence, did several tours, and carried a Thompson. Beyond that is decidely difficult for him to talk about.

Heck, if anyone can fill in any gaps for what sort of equipment he might have use. he was an junior NCO, US Army, late 60s.
