Girls

Postby brycraw » Fri May 16, 2008 12:37 pm

Please understand what I'm saying here and don't blow up the topic with negatuve comments. I once was told that a girl on my team was unable to play in a WW2 re-enactment because they're weren't any girls in WW2 fighting squadrons. Thoughts? Comments?

[joke]Dress her like a French whore and say she's a resistance spy[/joke]

From pure re-enactment I can dig not letting her play. But if I were running the show I'd let her, as long as she was re-enacting well.
*shrug* But I ain't as much of a stickler for fine details like that as some organizations ;)

The Russians used female conscripts late in WW2.

Reason: They ran out of able bodied men.
Please buy your gear from Rick Fisher; perhaps he can buy a Life.

re-enactors are anal down to the smallest details. I can understand their want for 100% authentism but they should also make exceptions in certain cases. Not many women play and i think it would be a great case to allow her to join your group. But again, re-enactors are anal.....

BTW, my wife plays so i hear ya.

Also the french resistance had a large female population.

I agree with what you guys are saying... I understand the accuracy involved in a re-enactment but... she is still a person and it seems wrong to restrict her because of her gender. Thanks for the input, I was simply checking to see if I was in the wrong state of mind by being upset about it.

This was re-enactment or re-enactment airsoft? Battlesim's the only group doing WWII airsoft reenacting here in the PacNW, and they're pretty righteous dudes.

Thats not really the reason or the time line, but whatever.

I think women are fine in reenacting as long as:
1. They are portraying a female role (WAC for instance or French resistance)
2. If they are portraying a male role, they don't look feminine. So no makeup, boobs are hidden, hair is not visible, etc.

If I cant tell, I wont care.

Thanks for everyone's input. I agree with most of your guys' comments and I alwasy thought the sport could use some more woman involvement.

NWHA allowed women to reenact but they had to carry a wooden block in their groin to compensate for the lack of naturally occuring 'wood'.

See, I dont get that. I'd be pissed if they didn't let me play, personally. When it comes to airsoft re-enactments, I fail to see how my lack of a hot dog has anything to do with my ability to enjoy the event the same as everyone else who shows up. Then again, I'm not as serious about it as a lot of groups of people are...

Historical reenactments strive to keep the event as close to history as possible. The use of gear that wasn't in use at the time will earn someone sneers and are considered "farby" or historically inaccurate. The lack of a hot dog in an all male combat unit will also be considered "farby" or historically inaccurate.

When it comes to airsoft reenactments it's all up to how congruent with history the organizer wants his event to be. Would I run a 'no girls allowed' airsoft reenactment event?
Nope, airsoft is played by people looking to have fun. WW2 reenactment (blank-fire weapons/vehicles) is taken part in by those looking for a historically realistic/accurate representation of past battles.

Anyway, you'd make an awesome NWHA russian. :D
