sniper team

Postby KA-BAR » Tue Apr 20, 2010 1:29 pm

sounds completely stupid huh?

well i am serious. i have been thinking about organizing a full sniper squad of 8 shooters. these 8 individuals will be paired into 4 two man teams. this unit of sniper/spotters wil be available to all US commanders to force multiply with. from a cadre of known individuals who can provide the CO. with exactly what he needs for his mission.

the requirements for this squad is not just some bolt action and a ghillie suit.
this is a mind set. you must be willing to portray snipers/spotters uniforms from every branch of US service, for impression purposes, be it modern day warfare to some period WW2 gear for those interested in that.

i am not going to talk about equipment or replicas here, if you have questions on those issues, this is not the squad for you sadly. you will need to gain some more experience within the community for yourself, but i am sure one of the future squad members would be happy to assist you with questions about the role.

also, i would like to see maybe a consorted effort done likewise by someone else, to do a OPFOR sniper squad team idea, that can be applied in the same manner as i am implementing for US Commanders. OPFOR should have the same options and same devoted cadre of trusted shooters to rely upon.

i am also thinking this is a coalition. this is not a team where you are part of this and that's that. you will maintain your team affiliations. i am just organizing the bolt turners, that do a great job on the field, and can be a asset to commanders.

I like this idea and would be more than willing to help out. I definitely like that this isn't a "team", so you can stay affiliated with your team, but for those of us that really enjoy turnin the bolt and crawling on our faces, nice to have a group we can intermingle with. Would be an asset for commands wanting to actually use snipers. We could organize people using the traditional two man sniper/spotter, even to the more modern 5-6 man sniper team (team lead, trigger man, spotter, 2x security). Rawk on

glad to see two teams stepping forth in PSC and APST. i look forward to working out a program together that will provide all with exactly what they are looking to get out of it.

I like the idea. What I'd like to see NOT happen is positions being monopolized when limited slots are available. I'm just sayin. I think it's a good idea to get a team which the side commander knows he can count on, but I can see it possibly blocking others from stepping into the role because they're not affiliated.

That aside, with respect to my duties to my team, I offer you my assistance if you need it.

thats awsome gunny.

i do not want to edge any players out of shooting thier bolt actions at a game. i also have seen currently that alot of games will be limiting the amont of ghillies on the field. this group will be built with the express purpose, of setting good onfield examples of what our designated roles are. setting this example will allow for others to see what is being done, and if they feel truly committed to that position. also i will be encouraging all members of this squad to extend a hand to those less experienced shooters, and become a mentor base to the community. providing valuable information on TTP's that can be adapted for airsoft, fieldcrafting, and other helpful shooting tips that will make them better shooters and thus more desireable for those positions, so the old farts can sit back a few games and play other roles.

i notice that last year amos had a squad automatic or a DM in his hands more then his bolt. so i am not sure about his intrest, but i am sure there will be atleast two compotent shooters representing APST.

as for you gunny, your participation would be invaluable. what i would truly appreciate, is some help building my criteria for prospectives. also your expertise as a observer/admin during training or future sniper competition events. we need someones eyes who knows the tricks and will send the walker right up thier asses to punch thier card. so i didt really precive you going for a shooters position, but definately in the admin cadre. if this suits you and does not conflict with your other team responsibilities i would love to have you aboard on this project.

I would love to take part in this. The only down fall is my field craft is not the best right now, I do have a TM G-spec and a home-made guillie, and it would be an honor to learn from the best.

hey that sounds awsome merchant. and dont get discouraged if you are not initally chosen, there will be a mentoring project with in the group where poeple just like yourself can gain all the knowledge and experience they desire, to make them a better shooter. once you accomplish that becoming part of this group is easy.

like i said, just having a ghillie and a bolt action wont get you in. a desire to learn and grow will get you noticed........your reputation as a shooter and a player, and the mind set is what sets you apart from the others.

looking forward to meeting you on the field merchant.

I understand. I didn't sink $500 into a bolt to end up scraping it, I do want to learn. I would like to eventually have a career as a real sniper.

sounds like you got a nice platform.

this is going to be more then hoped hop bolt actions set to destroy at max velocity.

this wont be an 8man bolt action team.

spotters will be carrying M4 or other DMR's.

this group is going to emulate what the CO needs for his missions for games and events.

so if he needs static shooters with heavy weaponry ( I.E. Barret type anti matrial weapons) to portray a checkpoint over watch...we are the goto guys with the gear and the right mentality for that role. if he needs jungle crawlers going after pablo escobar for assassanation missions we have the long range bolts for that.
if there is a urban situation and a CO needs overwatch as his forces move through, and wants his snipers to have followups....then M110 replicas are in order.

side arms and side arm marksmanship, something i see alot of shooters go with out, exspecially in the winter.

so as your role as a sniper you are required to know and own many of these platforms, so that you can maintain continuity of the impression, the post, and the mission at hand, and have the mission specific gear to support that role.

having participated in a radio class, knowing how to do a call in, and other various details of the observe and report role must be adhered to. target ID. and facial recognition are pluses. if i know that you know alot of the individuals that are playing a particular event and your CO says..." hey, i wanna know what that sneaky stinker jewish ninja and randal are up to...find out!" you know exaclty who they are talking about and can provide valid and up to date on field info fed direclty to him so he can counter that bullshit. so knowing the community that you play with, by name face, callsign.

and then there is the viet nam and WW2 reinactors that will be popping up this summer, so i am sure the snipers want to participate in that action, there will be requirements for keeping hold of period gear so that you can be called upon as a US forces snper of any branch that is being reinacted.

basicly this group is a huge commitment, and wont be on the cheap. its more then just having a ghillie and a bolt action rifle at 500+

it is still forming, and i am froming it from the dust of the earth.

as much as this is a group is will be loosely organized, but tightly run. you will still have your team affiliations, and once you feel that you have done your part, can respectivly vett out of service and pass on your mantle to those you mentored, so that they become your replacement.

then there will be a rotation throught the community, and everyone will have a equal shot at getting a sniper / spotter slot at premier events and OP's in the future.

stay tuned, i am hoping that this will be in full swing by this summer so that late summer events can use us.

and then be ready for full deployment for the 2011 year.

i have been doing alot more thinking about this and traded a few PM's with gunny.

how this is going to work, is i am going to host a new type of event. this event is going to be called "Ghilleman 2010" i am going to host this event i am hoping Bi- yearly. so two times a year, i will be hosting an event that is not a Skirm, or a Game. this will be more of a gathering of dedicated individuals, that will be sharing information, TTP's, Fieldcraft so on and so fourth. there will be workshops on how to better the skillsets you are seeking to improve. this will be open to all sniper/spotter/DM's teams. i am not sure if BSP is hosting another sniper challenge this year, so during the Ghilleman 2010 gathering there will be several lanes or workshops that will allow you to prove yourself or improve yourself. so there will be a stalking lane. there will be a lane dedicated to learning how to use your optics correctly for range finding. there will be a known and unknown didtance shoot to test your newly aquired range finding skills. there will be a pistol marksmanship range.

if you have seen any of the top sniper series of challenges, i will be basing my program strongly on this, but geared more for airsoft ( i.e. ranges, so on and so fourth).

with some luck and a little help i am hoping that the first anual ghilleman 2010 will be organized and ready for the public.

i need to first lock down a location, and work a lil more on my admin staffing and some other details.

please stay tuned.
