Yes, and discussion forums are used for discussion, what's your point?

It's pointless to have a view on anything if it remains unchallenged.

Man A: The earth is the center of the universe
Man B: Works for me.
Man C: Me too
Man D: But wouldn't it make more sense...
Man A: THE EARTH IS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE
Man D: How did you come up with this conclusion
Man A: IT JUST IS!

The Earth rotates on its own axis and orbits the Sun.

Ben I see your debating skills as more combative rather than informative. (whether or not I agree or disagree with your opinion)

Ok, Ill divulge mine just because you are so nice.

I chose "the best interest of the US"

You will ask why I feel that way?

The best interest of the US is a relative term. I will say in the best interest of US civilian security. Right now, in my opinion, the US has adopted a forward deployment plan. This scheme's projected manifest will be to reduce the focus and funds being used to hit Western targets. (US, GB, ect) This is being fulfilled by placing US forces(and other allies) within the Middle East (Iraq), thus pushing the theoretical front line outside the borders of the United States, and putting them in a more tangible location that is easily reached by "Terrorists".

This plan also objectifies that Iraq (if successful at becoming a democratic nation state) will be pivotal in producing a more western friendly culture through education, a strong economy, and a more open (less religiously controlled(like western nations))culture so people have a better quality of life, thus lowering the anti-western sentiment and overall reducing the threat to the United States.

The "terrorists" also see this potencial success as a danger to their way. They appear to like the "totalitarian man rule" culture and want life to be lead as it was thousands of years ago. The Western influence is making its voice heard in Iraq and that makes Iraq a must win. If the westernization of Iraq plan is successful, it will symbolize the perserverance of "freedom from oppression" is greater than the tyrants ("terrorists") that keep the people from raising themselves up to a higher level of consciousness and understanding through education.

So the formula would read: Will to be Free>Oppression through Terrorist acts.

That is my theory.

Yes, and the reason we know this today is because people like Copernicus, Galileo, and Kepler challenged the views of Aristotle, Ptolemy, and the Catholic Church. Instead of "not fueling the fire"

I look at this as the step that should have been taken in 1991. I did not vote for GHW Bush in 1992 because I vividly remember the day at Camp Daly that we collected unexpended ordinance for turn-in. The whole time I was listening to "rebel radio" which was a bootleg station out of Basra. The people who'd taken over the radio station were pleading with us in english to come help them fight off the Iraqi reprisal forces. Here I am, standing in front of 2,000lbs of small arms ammunition with a reinforced regiment, and we can't do anything about it.

I also see it as a needed endeavor because once it is finished, and there are TWO true Arab democracies, autocratic states like Syria and Iran will fall. The great majority of Iranians want their current situation to change. The "elected" Iranian government is run by unelected mullahs. Nothing happens in Iran without their approval. I will dance a jig in the street the day I see the crowds lynching them in Revolutionary Square.

I'm not convinced that the war in Iraq diverts Al Queda from attacking us. It only takes a small number of the right people to cause significant damage. However, Iraq was a terrorist state, and I think we should slap terrorist states like Iran, Syria, Sudan etc... as a matter of principle.

The "nice" thing about Iraq is that all of the Jihadis are waiting in line to get in there. The ones who aren't smart enough to get into the US, but are still violent sociopathic animals can go there in droves; and get sent to meet their 72 Virginians (sorry, we're fresh out of virgins) by American troops.

So Bill, You think Iraq was a greater threat to us than Syria, Sudan, or Iran?

I believe it had the best case to be put in front of the world community as a target.

So in other words you think we should have been looking for a fight? Who's the terrorist now?

When we are finished with Iraq, maybe Bush/another president will attempt other similar nations. However I do feel a few other of those options come into play...

No bashing!!! :D

that pretty much summs it up for me.

Valor is Their Name

America gives her bravest, her best
and a generation bleeds to death.
Time and again Americans have answered
their country's clarion call to arms
in defense of freedom.
Duty is their watchword.
Valor is their name.

Who are there citizen soldiers
these men forged from steel?
Most are boys.
They come from the cities and the farms
the factories and the offices
the cotton mills and the classrooms of America
these boys who quickly become men.
Valor is their name.

Mechanics, truck drivers, doctors, engineers
teachers, students - America's sons.
The fate of the world
rests of their shoulders.
Faced with pain, hardship and sacrifice
they do not falter.
Valor is their name.

America gives her bravest, her best
and a generation bleeds to death.
None call themselves heroes.
We call them all heroes.
History will forever call them heroes.
Valor is their name.

Ben, you asked a direct question. Target=Location. Please dont use a single word to build your one liner comebacks from, it makes you appear less intelligent and shallow.

First of all, I'd like to stay that many people do not realize that Terrorists just want to kill us. They say "NO WAR IN IRAQ". Really? Last time I checked, it was our people that were killed in a couple of really tall buildings, before we went to Iraq. The Mid-Eastern area of the world will always want to harm us in some way because that is the way they live. We have a different God, even though many Americans think God does not exhist. We, as a country, are being proactive and intolerant. Now if only we could be proactive and intolerant in our own country, things might get better here as well. Imagine if a crime was actually illegal and punishments were real punishments.

Second of all, I'm going to shut up because I'm "Conservative" and hated by many flower holding smily faces (in my own country).

Lastly, it's Friday, go have a beer.

Excuse me why did you say the war on terror is an "excuse for afghanistan' or more importantly, 'finishing the work that was done during desert storm' I believe this is the IRAQI CAMPAIGN, not just the WAR ON TERROR, because both the Afghan campaign and the Iraqi campaing are part of the broader WAR ON TERROR campaign. Is it not simple enough?
