Scopes are useful for recon when you don't have time to fumble around with your tac vest to find your monocular (so you don't have to put down your weapon in particular), but of course for actual shooting with airsoft weapons they are quite pointless. However the zoom on hand has saved me several times from sharpshooters.

You co-witness the red dot and the iron sights so that when your red dot fails, you can still use your iron sights, and you're used to seeing them.

I know that this is a good idea, because I ended up running a 'glass room' at TTC1, and my iron sights were off, and I hit the hostage. :D

With a red-dot, you get precision shooting, without having to line up your sights (which can take time, even if it's a split second) and you keep all your peripheral vision, which you can't do with irons.

Who the hell aims? I just spray + pray!

Kidding.

I'm looking into red dots for my mp5k. Will all of them co-witness, or just certain types?

incubus: since you don't use some cantilever to raise your dot, i think that it will match.
Anyways, i use a 3-9x50 Strike System Scope on my VSR-10 GSPEC and i don't complain about it. Even at night games i can get my shots hiting on the right place. Only condition is that there is some moon shinning on the sky.

On my AK I used a compact 2-6x zoom scope. It was really nice.

I prefer iron sights because they just seem a little bit more natural to me.

I too use co-witnessed red-dot over the front iron sight.

I have an MP5, and prefer the high profile rail mount so I can have my iron sites and a rod dot or a scope.

co-witnessed m4, red dot over front sight. depending on the gun and scope it can make for better eye relief than iron sights alone.
The worst video game idea ever is boxing on a touch screen.
