Negative. The fact that the photo-op models have EGA's is little more than good marketing on the part of HK. Until the contract is signed, there are lots of things which can change.

Actually, it is an LWC weapon, which is better then an HK because at least the company is owned by people who care more about their product and less about their "reputation" (does it show that I don't like HK?)

If you want a "better" solution for this problem that I don't really think needs a solution: rebuild the SAW to fire in open/closed bolt mode, and issue a barrel which has been cut off and inch in front of the gas regulator.

Could be a Para barrel, which is already on MTOE for most combat arms units.

@Gunny, take a look at that Ares and tell us what you think, not a bad idea, but probably was more expensive then they wanted.

Ares is sort of a non-starter. The owner is in some kind of civil legal rats nest, and I don't believe he has the capacity to manufacture on the scale that is needed. They've been in production for something like 3 years, and to my understanding have delivered less than 100 units. I could be wrong, but I don't think they're viable. I suppose another company could negotiate a license to produce the Shrike, but that's a whole other thread right there.

That's not even addressing reliability issues. Truth be told, there are so few of them out there that it's hard to get a good read on reliability. From what I have heard though, the build quality is out of this world.

I would love to see that sucker in use on a mass scale though, assuming it works as well as the hype surrounding it leads us to think it should.

Also, I believe the SAW Para is a VERY viable solution. Personally, I think they should shitcan every other stock option and just issue the suckers with Para stocks. Then issue 2 standard and 2 para barrels with every gun. Going on patrol in the jungle? Draw a shorty from the armory. Going to be interdicting insurgents crossing in from Syria in the middle of nowhere? Draw the long barrel to get that extra range.

Now if only they'd put a bayonet lug on the sumbitch or issue the SAW gunner a tomahawk or something.

nice, morg. get those covers on there, and the grippod and its gonna be pretty close. the only difference that would bother me personally is the front sight/gas block being black, its a lot larger and more noticeable on the IAR than on your 416. also the forward assist, mag release, fire selector and body pins.

Garrett instead of the magpul stock, you might try and find the reinforced M4 stock that we use on our SAWs now. The Corps loves these things and they are switching almost EVERY SAW in the armory from the fixed or Para stock to this one.

Nice, I remember seeing the IAR on FutureWeapons as most people said, and I remembered Mac saying stuff about how, "ammunition belts being used with SAW M249s can get caught on all sorts of things and get you in trouble." I thought to myself though, that usually SAWs in service use box mags, making Mac the Navy SEAL look like an idiot. He then went on to praise the fact that with the IAR you can use other members of your fire team's mags. But then wouldn't the Full Auto feature of the IAR burn straight through those magazines? 30 rounds fly away fast on full-auto.
Just A thought to throw out there.

if the IAR gunner is outfitted propperly. he will have anywhere from 4-8 hicaps ( 100 rounds of 5.56)

maybe a few 30 rounders.


the RS platform TOGGLES between a closed bolt semi auto fire mode and a open bolt full auto mode. this weapon fires rapidly and stays cool ( to the touch even). a 30 round mag swappped out from your buddy will last just as long as the one hanging in your vest.

as for my impression platform it is just a plain olt AEG, that looks as close as i can get. its still a AEG with a 300 round hi-cap..... not very milsim.


i plan on getting a mix of Mid caps and standards to support this weapon.
