See, General Wesley Clark decided it was better to let us dehydrate and starve than to upset the locals by sending a helo with food and water for us (air support).

Air support WASN'T available, for political reasons. I'm sure if the Serbs had launched a ground offensive our direction, political considerations would have gone out the door.... But we still would have been hungry, thirsty, and angry from MRE constipation. Combine that with the theatre wide restriction on low level flights, and tactical level air support becomes a joke.

edit to add in kosovo and serbia, I saw tons of wrecked T34's and Shermans. And I saw the serbian army parade past us in unscathed T72's that were still filled with fight, after months of the airforce, marines, and navy spending billions of dollars worth of 'smart bombs' to wreck the Serbian infrastructure and army. They went on parade past us.

If I were to mention one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet--dead rags should be mandatory. I have no frakkin' idea (now if you heard me talk, you know which player I was) how many times I didn't know whether a player was hit. At one point, the last two of my team members got hit and, as they walked by me, I got up and walked off the field. Man, right then, I could've taken the low road and backdoored an entire cartel group. I opted not too--it seemed like cheating--so I walked back to US lines with the intent of just starting again. Ironically, just as I reached said lines, I took a stray BB and was out. I must have walked by within range of 30-40 guys.

I do second the admins being in the wrong spot at the wrong time quite a bit. Sorry to those of you in the main village that I decided to "shoot through." You eventually ducked....

I did have a grand time and entirely enjoyed myself!

I agree. I brought one with the intention of using it, knowing that it's Splat Action and they would probably be useful, but I forgot it in my bag and none of my other teammates thought to bring theirs. But if it had said so in the rules I for sure would have made it a priority, as a tend to for all other airsoft events now

I have been told in the past if you don't have a dead rag and you get hit you yell hit! and put your gun on safety above your head and walk back to spawn. I don't know...Thats what I was told and it has worked for me so far.

there were times when i thought things were going to turn out much differently then they did. in the first round, when the US/Brazilian team was pushing on starlog they were pushing hard. i was expecting to have to blow the place up within twenty minutes, but then something stalled on the allied side and the cartel took that momentary hesitation to re-enforce like CRAZY and push them out. it seemed like there were almost literally cartel soldiers sprouting out of the ground, for every one that fell two more took his place.

hats off to steve for a fantastic job coordinating his team and thinking strategically.

The fact that our respawn was very close to starlog was a big help in that part. Once all the missions were complete almost everyone that respawned went to starlog.

I shot several people who were already dead, because they didn't have dead rags and they got lazy about holding their hands/ guns up so they just looked like live players walking around.

I agree that they should be mandatory. It alleviates confusion and increases safety.

Just trying to get out of the spawn was frustrating...but it was fun. Still trying to get the mud off from that damn Hamburger Hill push. Next time I'm bringing a mortar.

I'm also still in shock that I actually won the AGM M4. I'm used to shirts and hats, not AEG's. It ended up being my teammate's first gun. Thank you Riddick! I'll definitly throw your name around when talking to people.

Seriously, excellent job....do it again!

The Phase I false start, while hampering, doesn't seem to have dampened our enthusiasm, as we were making pretty good progress on Starlog. There was a breakdown in what defined "out of bounds", and I figured out something was amiss when I had ACU-clad personnel coming up the logging road into the spawn point, preparing to fire into us.

Having spent the better part of the day watching and observing and trying to fit the pieces together, I have no major complaints. It would have been nice to have the yellow smoke's purpose identified in advance, as I had quite a few "What does that mean?" calls that my only real response was "Got me..."

For those of you who didn't know what was going on, waiting until OP
time to ask those questions of an obviously busy CO is pretty poor timing. I know there were a lot of people camped out overnight who would have been happy to answer questions. I've been aware of the OPORD that Top put out since day one. I got the baton pretty late in the preparations, but I know I put out mission taskings to my command personnel and I know they put every effort into implementing them. If nothing else, you knew where we needed to be and could have easily gone there.

Not being forward, I don't know how bad the "HAX!" situation was, but folks: if you're on target and they're not calling hits, call an admin. Waiting to get back to the spawn point to let me know makes the whole thing irrelevant. By the time I get an admin on the wire, it's been...15 minutes?

If there are going to be smoke missions (or any sort of "fire support"), those individuals need to be dedicated admins who are monitoring for the calls. Once we've used our mission, they can do whatever needs doing, but until then, I need them on the wire, ready to listen.

A change I might suggest to the next person (un)lucky enough to command a unified structure such as the US did: get your Platoon Commanders, Squad Leaders, and Fire Team Leaders all in the same room, sandbox the exercise, and rework it until you have a plan that they can explain to their men. Span of control standards are three to seven individuals. Beyond that, the brain stops trying to comprehend and starts spinning in place.

The CO really needs a strong "first shirt" to handle the tactical details of "take that hill". I realize this makes it look like there are two people in charge, but the reality is that as CO, I spent most of my time listening to the radio and trying to make sense of the radio traffic and where I had people.

People: calling for medics over the radio won't make them appear. I had six medics in the field, all of them attached to one platoon or another. I wasn't holding medics in reserve for calls, nor was I going to deprive a platoon of a medic without good and sufficient reason.

There's probably more stuff in my brain, but this is all the stuff I can think up...

it sounds like it was an epic game. I'm sad I was unable to make it. However this just makes me want to make the next one that much more. And that one I'll be healthy for and have a metal G3 body :D
