I need cylinder & gear lube.

Postby weasle8877 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 6:01 pm

I just got a MP40, and after taking out all of that god-awful chinese grease they slop in there, I was displeased to find that I was out of gear grease. I would like to get some tomorrow so I can get my gun ready for a game on sunday. There are no airsoft stores in my town, however there is an expansive RC store, and a few hobby shops. Are there any greases that transcend the boundries of RC and Airsoft?
P.S. I would also like cylinder grease, but I only need gear grease.

Thanks in advance.

As Beran said, White lithium grease - I got a 1 pound tub of the stuff at Diamond Hardware for 6 bucks. Dunno if you have a Diamond where you're at, but I'm sure a Lowe's would have it too - look in the hardware section.

For the Cylinder, you actually don't want white lithium. It works great for gears, but on the cylinder, you want a lighter grease.

I picked up some Red N' Tacky #2 from lucas oil, which is formulated for sliding surfaces as well as open gears. It's right between white lithium and piston lube. It also makes gears extremely quiet, and gives me a fantastic seal between the piston and the cylinder walls, which results in great compression.

I use Tamiya Molybdenum Grease for my gears and Tri-Flow (Spray) for my cylinder and piston head. I've been using this combo on my all my guns for years. To give you a sample of it's durability. My TM Ak-47 gear box last for 5 year and 100,000 rounds before I ever had to open it to fix something. And the grease was still good.

Tamiya Ceramic Grease also works well for the gears.
